Messi is a shadow of his former self. He looks bang average for Argentina. Just strolls around the pitch doing fuck all for most of the game. Ronaldo trumps Messi by a Country mile when it comes to the International stage.

Messi looks off indeed, but there is also only so much one player can do when the team fails as spectacularly as Argentina did today. They could not string 2 passes together the whole game - much of it was croatia's quality, but there is no excuse for that performance (not much better against iceland either).

Not one to point a finger to the coach, but difficult to put the blame elsewhere. Poor selections and worse subs. Worse than Willy's shortcomings is the fact that he was selected as #1 GK to begin with.

Tbh he always did. Even when Argentina got to final in 2014, Mascherano, defense and Zabaleta were the main reasons for that.

With Portugal, its always on Ronaldo. He scored 80+ goals for them.

Regardless of who played better for NT, there is zero doubt Ronaldo always loved to play for Portugal, even more than for Madrid. Messi often doesnt give a shit for Argentina, which is odd. He did live in spain for big part of his childhood, maybe the reason is there.

Regarding today, Argentina sucked. Thats on Sampaoli. He picked shit players and left Icardi, Paredes and Mamanna at home.

Nevermind didnt use Di Maria, Lo Celso or Fazio who is best argentine CB.

Guzman

Taglifico Fazio Otamendi Rojo

Paredes Mascherano Lo Celso

Messi Kun Di Maria

Meanwhile Sampaoli found way to play Acuna, Silvio, Meza, Perez, Mercado and Pavon as sub

You're spot on, his player selection is just odd. I think Messi wishes he played for Spain to be honest. If he had, then I think he would have eclipsed any and every player ever on the International stage.

I am not surprised with this result. Forget about Messi and Ronaldo. International football is all about how solid are you at the back and Argentina is one of the worst team defensively,

Croatia has a very decent team.

Lol, now suddenly Argentina has still some hope. Football is crazy.

No chance for Iceland against mighty Croatia. Argentina vs Nigeria would be fun to watch. Messi now or never moment.

VAR just provided the ref with the worst angles of the pen incident. Why didn't they show him the most obvious angle? Luckily he gave the pen in the end.

Nice to see Omeruo have a decent game. Still to be given a chance here

heh Omeruo is no longer a youngster - he's 24 and has only played (on loan) for small clubs.

Reckon the only reason he's still at Chelsea is that the club is having a hard time moving him.

Very little quality in this Nigeria side... missing an Okocha type of player.

That's more like it Super Eagles. Only worrying part is that the stupid penalties that you concede. But we are all good as long as Messi takes it

I pissed myself after Willy's mistake Argentina are equal to Spurs in my eyes. 78 they needed to beat Peru 4-0 they won 6-0 they bunged Peru no question it was  bloody obvious. Then of course Maradona in 86 the most blatant piece of cheating ever on a football pitch although how the fuck Shilton got outjumped by Maradona is beyond me even if he led with his hand.

Argentina squad revolt after coup to axe failing manager Jorge Sampaoli fails

Quote

The players wanted 1986 World Cup winning midfielder Jorge Barruchaga, currently the general manager of the national side, to replace Sampaoli.

One of Burrachaga’s 1986 team-mates, Ricardo Giusti, a close friend of the general manager, the mood was brutal.

Giusti said: "The players want to build the team.

“They told Sampaoli and Tapia that they are going to pick the side. Sampaoli can sit on the bench if he wants, but it won’t matter. It will be nothing to do with him.”

Sampaoli switched from a defensive quartet against Iceland to three at the back for the disastrous Croatia defeat, leaving his squad unconvinced the coach had any strategic planning.

It was also claimed that Mascherano and striker Cristian Pavon came to blows in the dressing room after the Croatia match when the former Liverpool midfielder lashed out verbally at blunder keeper Willy Caballero.

Poor Willy....

more VAR controversy again, Argentina have luck on their side it seems, facing certain elimination and yet they manage to qualify for the round of 16. France will destroy them for sure, this Argentina team is just a mess it must be said.

That is not var controversy, that is just ridiculous penalty that is given. Honestly, fifa need to sort this out.

The amount of soft penalty given in this tournament is beyond ridiculous. If you cannot hold at all in penalty box then it is just too easy for big and strong player too score
