N'Golo Kante

Can't compare this to the Vardy situation at all. He's a 29 year old player approaching the decline of his career. He would have been going to Arsenal to be a squad player. Sure, he'd be getting paid more but he realized in the end that he could stay at Leicester where he's a legend and the "main man" rather than a bench warmer at Arsenal. If he was 5 years younger he'd have gone no question.

Kante on the other hand is only 25 and has years and years at the top level ahead of him. Let's be honest here, last season was a freak occurrence. No chance will Liecester be near the top again next season. Kante has the chance to go to a much bigger club, get a big pay raise, and most importantly will be much more likely to regularly challenge for trophies if he moves.

I would think in that case it's completely up to Liecester. Unless they're really, really nice and want to make things easy for Kante by allowing him to choose, they really have no reason to sell for a lower amount.

If we bid the £20m and another club bids £30m but Kante only wants Chelsea we kind of have to hope Liecester doesn't play hardball and allows him to go where he wants rather than to the highest bidder. We'd also have to hope that another club doesn't get in his head after we've already bid and sways him their way.

If that's the case then this so called release clause is on boarder line useless.

They don't necessarily have to offer more than us, they just need to make an offer the player will accept.

Kante may, for example, be happy there, he may have a sense of gratitude to Leicester for the boost they've given his career, he may not want to put up with the negativity of fans if he moves, or with being thought of as a traitor by his Leicester team mates. Any number of possible reasons he might accept less to play for Leicester than he might earn elsewhere. I don't believe he will, but it's possible.

Surely their players and fans couldn't begrudge him for wanting to move from Liecester to Chelsea? It's like moving from a ground floor apartment to the penthouse. Any of them would jump at the chance.

Liecester are very good at signing players and improving them. They can take the money for Kante and buy the next unknown player and build him up.

They are just angry as every fan and player has right to be. It hurts to see your best players go.

Chelsea have opened talks with Leicester City regarding midfielder N'Golo Kante. [Telegraph] #CFC

Leicester City had received no concrete offers for N’Golo Kante during Euro 2016. [Leicester Mercury]

Kante's contract is convoluted. There are sub-clauses to the release clause, the specifics of these are unknown. [Leicester Mercury]

Their "fairytale" is over now. With Pep, José, and Conte gearing up plus Spuds, Klopp, Bilic, and Koeman all improving their sides Liecester will do fantastically well to finish between 6-8th. Even there might be pushing it.

Especially with the demand of Champion's League football. Leicester are going to brought back to reality, which is unfortunate because their supporters are nothing but class.

They're class because they're small. Once they start flaming out, they'll start lashing out at everybody for conspiring against them.

The league is beyond them again, but I got a feeling they are going to do something big in the CL, and as we showed in 2012 and even Portugal in Euros to an extent, few bits of luck all off a sudden, late stages.

I have my doubts about them sustaining things from 17/18 onwards, but I'm not convinced the story is over yet, even if Kante leaves.
