The Conte Thread

I think the fact that we stuck to our principles, pressing them high up the pitch in spurts throughout the game and more importantly, passing out from the back, even with a few mistakes (note - it goes both ways. City made a lot of mistakes trying to pass out from the back as well, even though Pep is supposed to be the master of that art).

Answer me this. How many times under Jose did we ever play away from home and pass out from the back with almost all our goalkicks? How many times did we ever have our fullbacks/wingbacks so high up the pitch? How many times did we have 5 shots on target? Or score 3 goals?

Jose would have gone 6-3-1 in this game. Hazard fullback for 90 mins. Costa feeding off scraps. I'm actually disappointed by the (admittedly very very few) posters here still having a moan about Conte needs to do this and that.

8 wins in a row, including wins against Utd, City, Spurs, Everton and Southampton. We obviously need upgrades in defense in the next transfer window(s), but can you imagine how good we'll be if we're already this formidable with this backline?

So so happy with the win. What a determination by our player and conte.

What a match !

But beside the scoreline, for me before willian goal we fortunate to not conceded more than 2 goals. At another day we probably could be hammered.

City have good weapon to cause us problems

On individual aspect

Technical & Pacey striker : aguero

1st class ball delivery : silva & kdb

Pacey fullback : navas & sane

As a team their good at interchanging play, able to play high pressure football

Our build up play is not able to get out from city pressure and we look vulnurable when have to handle city counter.

What concern me is not just only city able to dominate but if we against oponent which have good defensive organisation (barely have any space at wide area to exploit by our wingback because opponent defensive line is very dicipline) and how to cope with high pressure, what we can see conte plan still isnt working.

This is not only happen against city but also again spurs.

Even boro (though it is probably because international break) but still what oppenent need to make us struggling is really simple just press us high.

City absolutely capable to break our defensive organisation, create so many great scoring opportunities , succesfully presssure our player ( there is a moment azpilicueta and kante make silly pass ).

Alonso is good wing back but his lack of mobilty and dinamism become liability in this match

But it wasn't anything to do with Matic's absence. My point was to highlight the lack of pace between both Cahill and Alonso will be an issue once more teams begin to figure out that we are more exposed than anywhere else. It's nothing to do with City's quality because even Tottenham did well to exploit that but they couldn't exploit it effectively.

It has everything to do with him. Matic's influence in midfield means Cahill and Alonso are a lot more protected. Today they had Cesc in front of them. Of course, City had to exploit the Alonso - Cesc - Cahill trinity, it'd be daft not to. Tottenham didn't exploit that as much as City did because Matic was there.

A good article. And was right. The game did pinpoint our weaknesses and lets hope Conte wasn't serious when he said the team was complete cause we aren't - YET!

Fact:The last time Tottenham won at Stamford Bridge Antonio Conte was a 20 year old midfielder playing for Lecce.

Watching this weekend's last PL game, it's clear why Chelsea are so efficient this season. Everton & City played us, changing their formation to match ours, and thus payed us a huge compliment in the sense we dictated how they play. I thought prior to this season it would Guardiola who would change English football but it seems to be Conte who's really influencing the approach of other teams in the league. Klopp has introduced high pressing and energy while Conte's got the formation and fitness levels up. Those double training over the summer really have put Hazard and Costa back into shape!
