Iirc he simply doesn't want the pressure of such a job. That's why he's been in International set ups lately, the workload is less and so is the travelling. He's only doing this because him and Roman are boys and we're desperate tbh, otherwise I don't think club-level management is in his foreseeable future.

He'll do what he does and leave honourably. I remember reading that Hiddink was a very close advisor to Roman even after he left, so he's not completely out the loop at Chelsea

Failed to qualify with Turkey and Netherlands for the Euro's of 2012 and 2016. Anzhi was so-so, below expectations .

But at Chelsea he will be a success, he's a relax guy + people manager and that's what players need after feeling so much pressure under Jose. Himself will also feel no pressure because it's only an interim role and he can't do any worse in the league. The January window is also coming, so he can fix some things that were needed to be fixed in the summer.

Also, the players feel they have something to prove after all the media stories and the last comments from Mourinho. And if the club can get Drogba as assistant, I can see this season finish surprisingly good, maybe a second FA cup for Hiddink, top 4 and far in the UCL?

I agree if he atmosphere improves many other things will, but I don't fool myself believing only a nice guy can make it work - which is why I think Carlo's latest work wasn't that good - despite winning La Decima.

We need changes in our tactical approach, we need someone that can not only keep things relaxed and low profile, but capable of doing the adjustments and changes we need as a team. I hope he's up to the task.

So many players have been underwhelming and it's time for them to piss off in January. Hiddink needs to scrub the rat trap clean and move forward with the future of this club like he said publicly.

He is like 68 or 69 years old, he is not going to manage again after the end of this season I would imagine. He is just doing this for the fact it is Chelsea and it is a 6 months contract.

Old, but he can really have more two years and a half, or he can just sign a one year extention. After the disaster of this season, next season should be a transition one, and perhaps he is the best for this kind of job. Jupp Heynckes got Bayern job under similar conditions. Van gaal had a poor 10/11 season, and Jupp did an amazing job during 2 years, and he left a very strong team for his successor.

I think Hiddink should do the same, unless Guardiola is available. The likes of Simeone would be too much of a risk, and I do believe there is a big chance that won't work out right.

if he keep zouma in the team, integrate baba while throwing iva out (cant see HOW iva will get an extension), plus give RLC some true moments rather than the last 2 minutes of a game where we have won 5-0 already, then i can say he has done well.

winning the FA cup is our only hope for getting into european competition next season.

a decent top half of the table finish. thats pretty much it.

Heynckes did return to Bayern twice and won the quadruple. Coincidentally, he also was caretaker in 2009 just like Hiddink.

How amazign it would be if Hiddink, who is by no means tactically inferior to Heynckes, could just take all his experience together and create the perfect blueprint our team has to play. That Bayern team of 2013 might not have played the prettiest football but it was tactically one of the best drilled sides that I have ever seen. Dynamic, aggressive, full of intelligent off-the ball runs. Every player at any given time knew exactly what to do, where to run in stark contrast to the often ponderous style of posession based football LvG or Pep play. If Hiddink could instill that kind of instinct into our players I'd be happy even if we win nothing this season. This is probably Hiddink's last job in football, let's hope he crowns it with his masterpiece.
