My fond memory of Bobby Campbell has a Chelsea manager when we were playing shit in the league and he dropped three key players and put three youth players on against man utd at old Trafford and we won 3-2 that day

RIP Bobby Campbell. Will always remember him as the manager that got us back into the top flight, then finished 5th the following season - which would have got us into Europe if it wasnt for murdering liverpool.

I was 10 when I started going, still remember singing Bobby Cambells blue army in the old shed end. Seems like yesterday.

I never wanted Bobby Campbell as manager. For me, he had no track record to speak of. After John Hollins, we needed someone with real motivational skills and someone that would have gained instant respect. After a good start to that season under Hollins we nose dived fucking big, big time and that's when Bobby came in. Results never really picked up and a 1-1 home draw with Charlton put us into the play off's. Things seemed to have turned round as a pre-Walker Blackburn were put to the sword but then boro'.....

That season in the 2nd Division, I went to every game, home and away. After a shaky start due possibly to the FA closing the Shed, a ban on away fans and you couldn't buy a ticket on the day. Let the five home games and one League Cup game (Scunthorpe anyone? 5,000 there and I was one). Once things with the ground returned to normal results quickly improved, 27 game unbeaten run ended in April 1989, at Leicester, on the same day as Hillsborough. We won the league by a mile from Man Citeh because we had the better team by some distance. Dixon and Durie were banging them in. Kevin WIlson added countless others, Graham Roberts must have scored about 150 penalties that season. With all that, I still doubted Campbell, the defence was fucking shocking but 2nd Div Champs we were.

As Fulham Broadway has stated, the season back in Division One was a success. Finished 5th. We were playing decent stuff until December then, in successive weeks, we got cunted 2-5, both a home, by Liverpool and Wimbledon, which kind of flattened things off a bit.

Older ones on here such as FB and whoever else may correct me as the sands of time take effect, but i'm sure Neil Warnock was offered the job before Campbell. Possibly Porterfield, but I think Campbell. Warnock was at Notts County at the time and had developed a really good team full of young players. Believe it or not, he refused the chance to manage us. Possibly something to do with having to deal with Bates. Fuck knows.

Bobby Campbell, for me, never stopped banging on about Liverpool, which also would me up. As I said, I didn't fancy him as manager but thats not to say he wasn't a decent honorable bloke who done his best. I was genuinely saddened when I heard this news and my thoughts are with his family.
