Chelsea transfer news: Blues will attempt to beat Man Utd to signing of 'new Matic' Marko Grujic.

Chelsea want to buy the Serbian teenage midfielder in January and then loan him straight back to Red Star Belgrade.

According to different reports we are interested in signing the young Serbian midfielder Marko Grujic (19 years - Red Star - Serbia) for the next January market. According to these reports our intention is to sign him and give back on loan to Red Star.

IMO I think it would be better to give him on loan but for a team like Vittesse or in a team in Championship like Middlesbrough (for example) so that he can go adapting to the English game pace.

Reports also say that Manchester United are interested in signing him.

Yeah I think if we just loan him straight back we'll fuck this up from the very start. He'll start the English game, if ever, at too late a stage to really do anything. He'd be a Van Ginkel. (and it wouldn't be his fault.)

These kind of news no longer excites Chelsea fans, we all know they are never going to get into the starting 11. Couple of loans to useless teams in useless leagues and then the eventually get sold on the basis that they didn't prove on their loan spells (FFS). These kind of news just adds more frustration and irritation if any.

We will never make/get some on e as United's Martial( I know its to early for that kid too but still he is showing promise).

A Serbian user on WAGNH wrote this in their article about the player:

"I am from Serbia and I tell you, HE IS THE REAL BEAST ON THE FIELD!

I watched every game he played this season, and I can tell you, he is astonishing player. He is by far the best player of Red Star, despite of his age. I don’t know which words to use to describe how good he is. He is definitely not "Matic type of player", he is more like Dejan Stankovic, central midfielder with great technique, great shooting ability, phenomenal work rate and very good vision on the field. He is also a leading player of Serbia U21 team which got all four victories in qualification group so far. Last summer he became U20 world champion with national team, but because of his age, he played only a few minutes. In these four, five months, he developed so much, whole Serbia speaks about him and how great player he is. This weekend Red Star played against Borac, and that game was a must win for Red Star because of a difference in quality between these two teams. At half time score was 2:2, then Gruja took the ball, scored 3rd and assisted for the 4th goal, and game finished 4:2. He plays practiacally the same position as RLC, and I know many of you won’t like this, but he is for sure already better player than Ruben. You can say that he only played in Serbia, but that is not so important, look at our Youth teams, we are always among the best teams in every Euro competitions, I guess that’s the proof of their quality.

Despite having many talents as Andrija Zivkovic, or Lazar Markovic, etc. Serbia didn’t have this caliber of player since Nemanja Vidic and Dejan Stankovic. We should buy him, otherwise we will regret, I can see him being one of the best players in his position in Europe!"

Sometimes players look interesting in their highlight vids and sometimes they don't. For me, Grujic is one of those who does not.

I'm not saying that it's possible to judge from the video posted above that Grujic is a poor player, but I see no evidence there that he has the potential to become one of the elite. His touch is not anything special and nothing in that video suggests that he has superior body control. Having seen the video my opinion is that these stories emanate from an agent trying to sell top clubs a bowl full of hope, rather than a vision of reality.

If my assessment is correct then I suspect we will get him if we make a serious offer. I say this because our track record suggests that, of the big budget clubs, we are the one most likely to be mugged into paying elite level prices for sub-elite players.
