Chelsea Football Club have today completed the signing of Michael Hector from Reading.

The 23-year-old centre-back, who has signed a five-year-contract, will return to Reading and spend the remainder of this season on loan at the Madejski Stadium.

Hector, from London and a boyhood Chelsea supporter, began his career in the youth team at Millwall and moved to the Reading academy in 2009.

Having continued his development and gained crucial experience of first-team football out on loan, Hector made his Reading debut in January 2014 at the age of 21.

Last season, under the guidance of former Chelsea player and coach Steve Clarke, Hector established himself as a hugely important member of the Reading defence, making 49 appearances in all competitions and scoring three goals. He also played the full 120 minutes of Reading's FA Cup semi-final defeat against Arsenal at Wembley.

Hector, who captained Reading for the first time last week, has represented Jamaica at international level and started all three of their matches at this summers Copa America.

What's going on here?

Its quite baffling. I cant even find a gif for it, and that is saying something.

It looks so random, why didnt we make a statement and hype some youngsters to boost their confidence. This is just the opposite signal.

Will never play a minute for us.

If Terry is gone next season we'll bring in a top class replacement. Even if he stays I think we will. This kid won't get a sniff with JT, Zouma, Cahill, future new CB, and this Papy guy.

Money lit on fire and blown away. Harsh but true.

I don't understand the hate. What are your opinions based on? Bet you haven't seen the guy play even. At quoted price he is nothing near a risk. Rather an investment. If you haven't noticed Chelsea buys player not only for themselves but to send them to farm clubs, make profit and then buy the players we actually need, simple as that. And we've been BRILLIANT at that, keep up the good work board.

I would love to know how we are making money out of Reading on this deal.
