Travelling Advice

Hello Everyone!

As this forum is a hub of international members and members who have likely travelled before, I'm seeking some advice from you guys. My friends and I are planning a mini-travelling expedition in September over 14 days.

We are planning, but this can always change based on your experiences, to visit Prague, Budapest and somewhere in Croatia. As 22 year olds we're looking for a mix of vibrant night-life but also areas to see & experiences.

We're also looking for recommendations regarding hostels or any cheap hotels which will appeal to our age-group.

If anyone has any advice/recommends anywhere else to go, I would greatly appreciate it.

Kind Regards,

LDN Blue.

Just do a road trip - few cars from France to Croatia - amazing :)

That's what we did when we went to Outlook festival. It is honestly the best way. Floored it the 23 hour drive there, and stopped in and visited places on the way back. Lots of camping though, I imagine its quite an expensive trip otherwise.

When I lived in Austria we had to drive 1000+ miles to come home (as had the dog) but it was great doing different routes and finding new places :)

Camping is indeed cost effective :)

We would do this Muz, but not everyone can drive out of us. Those who can haven't been driving for long enough to make it affordable. For 14 days, we can get buy using the trains and interrailing.

If you can get to Plitvice while you're in Croatia, go. It's beautiful.

Thanks CeleryFC! I'll have a look at it :)

Budapest's nightlife is awesome, young tourtists love it.

Ok good point :)

the trains are pretty awesome - if you can book in advance a bit cheaper as well - from Paris to Salzburg if was like £60 with a sleeper car from Paris to Munich :)

It now costs me £100 to get from Peterborough to London - UK is such a rip off :(

I cant help you with this trip but could give you plenty of tips if you ever comes to India for some adventurous trip to Himalayas :D or may be to south india where i live. I just got back from a memorable trip to spiti valley in himachal. Travelling in these mountain areas are really cheap.

Okay guys!

So looks like my friends and I will be going Budapest, Prague, Zagreb, Split & Berlin. If anyone can recommend anything to do/see around these places don't be shy to let me know!

Any information on hostels, bars, parks etc would be ideal.

Haven't been to the first 4 but only have good things to say about Berlin. It's a really cool, youthful city and feels really safe. I stayed at the City 54 Hotel and Hostel in Schwartzkopfstrasse when I went which seemed good value for money. Nice sized rooms with sinks and hobs and stuff and directly opposite a metro station. Nice breakfasts too.

In terms of places to go you'd probably be better asking a German member but the tour of the Reichstag was actually really interesting- much more than I expected it to be. There are still walls inscribed with Russian graffiti from world war 2 and the guides are really good. The dome at the top is good too. It is free too if I remember correctly.

Thought the Pergamon museum was boring tbh. Was in and out inside 1.5 hours but each to their own. If you are interested in architecture the Cathedral is absolutely beautiful and the views from the top of the Cathedral dome are amazing too. The zoo is OK for a day out if you've good not much to do.

Olympiastadion was OK on my visit. I went in October and it was grey and freezing cold so I probably didn't like it as much because it just felt really grim and in the middle of nowhere. (I don't think it actually is but it takes a while to get to from the centre). I didn't do the tour but went to a Hertha Berlin match. Tickets are dirt cheap and easy to buy if you wanted to go to one of their matches. Think it was something stupid like 12 euros for an adult (although they were in the 2nd division at the time)

Potsdamer Platz seemed OK for bars and restaurants and stuff but seemed more expensive. It is a really cool area though. Alexandraplatz had some good restaurants too. Friedrichstrasse always seemed to be quite lively but I didn't go clubbing in that area. The Green Door (can't remember where it is) is highly rated and probably the weirdest cocktail bar I've been to. Really good though.

All in all I'd thoroughly recommend Berlin. Absolutely no complaints about it. Interesting history, friendly people and a really cool vibe

Go to the Plitvice Lakes national park, near Split.

If Heaven was a place on earth, this would probably be it.

Grazie! I'll bare all that in mind when I get down to making a full plan of what to see.
