Yep only costs around 25m...awesome squad player

Exactly. He would be an excellent squad player. He lacks that final something to be world-class but he's very good footballer. His release clause is 35m€ if Chelsea could down that through Wallace involvement and Jorge Mendes advise, I think we could have a very good player for good money.

I'd gladly move Oscar/Cuadrado on and replace them with him. No more Salah, Schurrle, Moses, Marin and Cuadrado for squad place when so often they were useless when called upon and simply not good enough to rely on them which results in overusing some players. Chelsea need such quality squad player like Gaitan, who at least has some technique and creativity in him.

I like Gaitan, I like his high level technical skills. In my opinion we don't have enough of that in the squad. I agree with those who think he can contribute in any of the roles across the three and do so well enough to play a big part for us . I hope this deal happens but I also agree with what's being said about the need for us to limit our expectations if he joins.

Players who can be outstanding at the elite level will be spotted by the big teams before they are 27. All of the wealthier clubs will have been running the rule over Gaitan ever since he joined Benfica; the fact that they have all passed up to now must say something. For that reason I was surprised when Wenger signed Arshavin and Cazorla as 27 year-olds. I do think though that Gaitan's technical skills will allow him to perform more like the Spaniard than the Russian. Maybe a Santi Cazorla type impact will do us very nicely.

I agree with the person above on the need of more technique in the team. I like the Santi comparison in terms of his situation and potential impact, but I do think Cazorla is easily the superior player though. Even in his Villarreal days. The question with Gaitain is how he'd cope in the PL as he's very lightweight.

It depends on the Mourinho's plans for season. Oscar's obviously not going anywhere and Cuadrado just joined so that leaves Chelsea with four players for the 3 behind the striker. Mou doesn't like to rotate so there's only room for five players for the attacking 3. If he's planning to continue with Hazard-Oscar-Willian, than I would think Gaitain would make a very good squad player.

I'd personally prefer a new player for the starting XI though. That attacking three does not have what it takes to help Chelsea compete on all fronts, because of their lack of firepower.

Kind of hope he does go to United. Depay and Gaítan aren't exactly the scary signings that I expected from them.

Apparently these latest rumors linking him to them are bullshit once again, though.
