This is a small piece taken from a Guardian article about John Terry. I agree 100% especially the bit about the England team.

In 2011 he was rated statistically the third-best passer in Europe, his completion ratio just a little behind Xavi (famously, he also has more career goals than Andrés Iniesta). Terry was a Fifpro world team of the year constant between 2005 and 2009 and has been a favourite son to some of the great modern managers. Carlo Ancelotti called him “the captain of all team captains”. Fabio Capello, who knows a thing or two about pure defending having coached Paolo Maldini, Franco Baresi and Fabio Cannavaro, considered Terry the only England player who didn’t shrink when he put on the shirt.

I don't know how Matic is not in people's top 3. When all 3 of our losses came when he didn't start.

We were all worried for both Newcastle and Tottenham away, because we knew No Matic=No Party.

I think a lot of people are overlooking the effect Matic has on JT and the entire defense.

Edit; Wow, don't know how i messed that up, he did indeed play against Spurs. I was sure he didn't. :tophat:

Hmm, interesting. Does that mean not one match would've been lost if he played in those three games? And what about Azpi's influence on Terry?

Hazard and Terry were better overall imo, especially in terms of consistency. Matic was great of course, but also struggled for a good part of the season. Costa was crucial with his goals, physical presence and off the ball running up front. Cesc with his creativity (Ramires, Oscar and Willian aren't very helpful in this area), especially in the first half of the season when he was simply on fire.

Think Costa, Cesc and Matic all make a strong claim for 3rd best.

He didn't play the Coc final vs Spurs.
