Not sure if there is a thread on this topic already, if so could the mods kindly merge this post with.

I am currently experience a constant dull ache in my shoulder. Mainly around the rear deltoid and in the top of the shoulder where the AC joint is located. I have regular clicking and popping sounds that have slowly manifested into a crunching sound.

I visited a physical therapist who said my muscles above my left shoulder blade were extremely tight and the clicking was nothing more than my AC joint. He said that all weightlifters experience this.

He then performed some massaging on the tight muscles and jerked my arm around to sort out the AC joint problem.

Since leaving The clicking became worse and the ache has become more constant. What to me seems like tendons in the dip of mg shoudler are snapping over bone when i rotate my arm or move in certain angles.

I have researched a lot on these symptoms and I believe all of my experiences are pointing towards a SLAP tear also known as a labrum tear.

Does anyone have any experience on this subject and if so I would love to hear some feedback.

p.s. I am very worried that this is a SLAP tear as it may set my training back months even years.

Really difficult to help you here without actually seeing it but definitely go seek an opinion of a specialist. Having to postpone training should be not an issue because the more your aggrevate the shoulder joint the more likely you are to damage it on a more permanent manner meaning youll need to lay off from certain types of exercise for good. The talk about weightlifters having bad shoulders should not be taken as a fact nor should it be a reason not to take your case seriously. The surface area of the humerus and the socket is very small so any instability in the rotator cuff can make it pop out easily. Leaving it to heal on its own can result in an impaired range of motion in the future.

Is the area red, hot etc? Which shoulder is it? What handed are you? Have you had any problems before with the shoulder - an injury, trauma, operation? How old are you?

Nothing much to add to what Sinine said, but I'll just ask this: Are there any specific exercises that aggrevate pain? Is the pain constant or better-worse at some point (morning-evening-night, pre-post workout etc), are you still putting stress on that joint or have you eased off, if so how long have you let it rest? Any treatment or medicine you've taken by your own? Any diseases in the family (Marfan's syndrome? Ehlers-Danols' syndrome?)

I wouldn't take that therapist's words for truth, because this condition is NOT normal by any means. Hard to give any good advise over the Internet except - seek specialist help, without diagnosis you can't go on and without proper screening methods you can't even start to diagnose these kinds of injuries. Wish you a speedy recovery!

Thanks for the feedback lads. I was hoping somebody might have experienced a similar problem.

I'm 26 with no previous injuries to my body in general.

It's my left shoulder and I'm naturally right handed!

I visited a doctor today who said he doesn't think it's a tear but he didn't have much to say on he matter at all to be honest. He has refered me to an Orthopedist who I have to wait a month to see.

I'm going to lat off any shoulder or chest exercises in the gym until I have seen the Orthopedist.

After much research it seems wise to perform Rotator cuff exercises to help stabalize the shoulder joint and strengthen the stabalizing muscles.

The clickinng has died down abit in the past couple of days but the achinng remains.

These bags of peas have been selotaped to my shoulder for an hour now!

Damn there is always a new obstacle in my way when I start doing something positive with my life.
