A brief look at the past 1,5 seasons show that 13/14 he played more regularly at the right flank, and that it was then that he had his really good season. This season he has actually played quite a lot centrally (as in having it as his starting position) which has probably added to this season being rather mediocre. His pace, good crosses and technique are most likely at their most fruitful from the flank.

If Chelsea can have their newly reported bid accepted and get what they want for Schurrle, then there wont be a large net difference.
