Chelsea could beat Arsenal and Liverpool in battle to sign Madrid star Alvaro Arbeloa

Spanish reports claim the Jose Mourinho is keen to be reunited with his former defender and can prize him away from the Bernabeu for a relatively small fee.

It's believed Arbeloa is keen for a change of scenery, but will be need to chose between Premier League trio Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal.

Sources say Mourinho shares a good relationship with the ex-mop star, and would like to bolster his defensive ranks with an experienced campaigner.

It's difficult to see where exactly Arbeloa would fit in at Stamford Bridge, but an argument could be made that he would be needed as back up for Branislav Ivanovic.

Arsene Wenger has openly admitted that he is in the market for at least one defender, so the 31-year-old could be an ideal choice.

The French manager has also been linked with fairly audacious moves for Borussia Dortmund pair Ilkay Gundogan and Mats Hummels.

Why would we sign a 32 years old right back? We have Ivanovic and Azpilicueta.

Would allow us to rest Ivanovic whilst still playing Azpi I guess. We're short at the back, he's a decent player, free, and someone José would trust. We have more urgent priorities but wouldn't be a bad signing.

He would be a good addition for depth. As a free or very cheap buy, I can't complain here. He's a serviceable player that in a crunch could provide some solid minutes. Not the flashy signing we all want, but champions are built on many low key signings. Remember, they add up.

Arbeloa is the type of player that coaches loves. He is a player who always meets / gives a good level, although not spectacular defense. Offensively not give much, but defensively is very intelligent. Arbeloa can play as Right-Back, Left-Back and even Centre-Back.

Maybe Arbeloa is not a player who can play in each starting eleven, but throughout the seasons have a player like Arbeloa is essential. He never protest at being a backup, he helps young players, he creates better environment (and more competitive) with his teammates and he really helps his coach (he was one of the favorite players of Jose at Real Madrid).
Besides Real Madrid fans are much identify with Arbeloa.

I think it might be a good backup for Ivanovic (although the first copy of security would follow being Azpilicueta and Luis Filipe at Left-Back). Its price would be very low, almost free.

It's a good opportunity to have a very experienced player, cheap and which is well understood with Jose. Also he knows the Premier League.

He sticks out like a sore thumb most of the time at Real Madrid as their weakest link. Almost every time there's a huge match involving them where Arbeloa starts you see journalists and pundits on Twitter questioning how the hell he gets in that side.

He's the type of signing Liverpool or Arse make after not being able to lure a to player and having to settle.

For their first team yes. He will be a back up player, content with a bench role. Really don't understand the issue.

Maybe for big games Arbeloa not have the necessary level (although for me it is a player who gives a good performance in any game, not a great performance, but a good performance and always serious and responsabe). But in normal games Arbeloa is a perfect player to rest in the physical aspect to the players, which are usual in the starting eleven. For example, to match Capital One, Fa Cup and many Premier League. Also in Champions League because he is very experienced and knows how to play those games with intelligence, as an old school player.

For big games we have to Azpilicuela the Right-Back and Filipe Luis for the Left-Back. But, as we are seeing this season with the physical exhaustion of certain players, we need to rotate our players more so they hit better physically, and Arbeloa is perfect for this.

In addition, Ivanovic is getting older (nothing we have to worry about this, I is not too old yet), and often the Right-Back (also the Left-Back) which have been Centre-backs in their careers, the end of their careers they return to Centre-Back. Maybe Jose wants to sign Arbeloa for Right-Back for him to put Azpilicuela as Right-Back, Filipe Luis as Left-Back and Ivanovic as Centre-Back if Cahill leaves the team (maybe we can enter by Cahill a good amount of money Zouma and bet on the future by having Ivanovic as backup of Zouma and John Terry).

Regards.
