Matija Nastasic

Laughable. Pellegrini is a fool. Doubt he will ever join Chelsea though; though I wouldn't complain. I think he is a really good CB and the fact he is being put on the chopping block is absolutely insane.

"Matija needs to play," said the City boss. "We already have important players here with four full-backs, Demichelis, Kompany, Mangala and Boyata."

"So we will see in the next few days what happens with Nastasic. He is an important player, but he has offers and I think the best thing for him is to play.

"We will see what happens, but we have until the end of August to see what kind of offers we get for Matija.

He's got a couple of mates here in Ivanovic and Matic so I'm sure he'd want to come, but City would never sell to us.

I'd have him in a heartbeat. Very young and very talented. City are indeed idiots. They're really going to sell a highly promising young CB and keep that old fossil Demecheiles who's a walking liability?

I was just about to post yesterday that Nastasic would be great CB here, City is ruining him, but in the end, I think we have enough young CBs here ATM. Yeah City will never sell him to us, unless he comes on free in few years because of Matic and Iva.

He is 21 and before last season, he was quite great, Im sure if he moves from City to club where he will play regular football, he will become top CB in few years.

Doubt they'd actually get rid of Nastasic. He's miles ahead Boyata and this season he can even be registered for the B-list in the Champions League so they won't have to worry about the HG quota. Kompany, Mangala, Nastasic and Demichelis is a solid set of central defenders but Kompany, Mangala, Demichelis, Boyata is a disaster waiting to happen.

Would be glad if they did offload him though, anything that weakens our rivals can only be a good thing.

No they want to cut their wage bill and foreign player quota. They have Dredyck Boyata whom is homegrown and appears to be replacing Nastasic.

Lol if true, Boyata isn't even PL level in my opinion

Exactly. His only real experience of professional football was a mediocre season at Bolton three years ago and after that he's done nothing but sit on his arse and his development has stalled massively. Boyata is already 23 years old so the age argument is out of the window as well with Mangala and Nastasic both being younger than him.

I'm not convinced by Nastasic yet. But, maybe you're right, City would be foolish, etc. I think it probably comes down to his character and private consultation with Vincent Kompany, who is undoubtedly a good authority on defending, leadership and communication.

A defender who not many clubs seem to be focused on is Balanta at River. Not tall, but he's athletic, good with the ball, and can close attackers down like a Koscielny.

Is he? For me he was quite clearly their best defender last season - Kompany was exposed as the good-but-not-brilliant defender he truly is, and it was Demichelis for the most part of the season was the real rock in City's back four. He had an inconsistent start to life in England but beyond that he was excellent.

I agree with you that selling Nastasic would be an idiotic move, though.

If Richards is available, we should make a move. Perfect homegrown squad signing.

On the subject of Demichelis; he is the sort that will that will give 10/10 performances when nobody is watching but the moment people do watch he gives away three penalties and is sent off by the 17th minute.

To me, Demichelis is either average and you don't really notice him or he's shit and sticks out like a sore thumb. Never a "damn, he's good" type of defender.

Agreed, but he isn't some kind of David Luiz-style catastrophe of a defender, as your first post inferred. He's a solid, usually dependable workhorse who is never afraid to put his body on the loan. A solid 7/10 player, a lot like Gary Cahill. He'll never set the world alight but he does a good job and rarely lets you down.

Yeah, fair enough. Still wouldn't have him in here, though.
