Patrick Bamford might be on his way to spend the season at MIddlesbrough after Boro manager, Aitor Karanka, confirmed his club's interest in the 20 year old.

"We are working on Bamford," Karanka said in his post match interview after a 1-0 loss to Leeds yesterday.

Bamford had spent last season on loan at MK Dons and and Derby Country scoring a staggering 29 goals.

Naturally, quite a lot of teams have showed interest in young Patrick this summer. But Karanka, who was Jose Mourinho's assistant in Real Madrid, is looking to use his relationship with the Portuguese to land our young striker.

And the Spanish manager was sure to highlight how highly he rated Bamford: "I have spoken with Jose Mourinho, everybody knows how important a player he could be for us. I hope that he can be with us but it is not in my hands."

If the deal does go through, Patrick will be joining another another Chelsea youngster, Kenneth Omeruo (20), who had joined Boro earlier this month for his second season long loan at the Riverside.

Rumors have it that Karanka is also interested in taking Chelsea's Lewis Baker(19) on loan.

If true, could it mean that the club has found, through Jose's connection to Karanka, a new 'loan club' in the championship like Vitesse in the Eridevisie?

The question is where will Bamford be more useful and also whether he is not too good for the CC. Would love to see him in the Premier League but probably won't see playing time anywhere.

I don't think he's ready for the EPL. He's only had one season of playing competitive football. Yes, it was a great season, but it's still one season.

Even his experience in the Championship the second half of last season was far from perfect. He was mainly thrown on the wings at Derby and he wasn't even selected by the manager for playoff games despite scoring in almost every appearance for them.

Even in the play off final when Derby had the numerical advantage for most of the match, he was never brought on by the manager even though they desperately needed a goal. Mind you, I was rather glad that Zamora scored that last minute winner. It would have been too easy of a decision to send Patrick to Derby had they been promoted to the EPL despite the manner they treated him, and it would have most likely been a very disappointing season for him on the sidelines.

Bottom line, I think there is absolutely no need to rush Patrick.. He's still 20 which is very young for a striker and there's no need to rush his development with a loan that he may not be ready for. I think he can still learn a lot from a year in the championship.
