Everton have reached an “agreement in principle” to sign winger Christian Atsu on a season-long loan, manager Roberto Martinez was reported as saying yesterday.

“Everything has been agreed with Christian - it’s just a matter of finalising little details more with his work permit and personal situation,” Everton manager Martinez said in the Liverpool Echo.

A deal for the 22-year-old Ghana international is still subject to a work permit being received and the completion of other necessary paperwork.

If completed, the move would mean a second successive year on loan for Atsu, who moved to Stamford Bridge from Porto for £3.5m last summer, but then headed out to Vitesse Arnhem.

As long as he gets a good amount of play time this can only be a good thing

Atsu is 22, if he fails to get a starting spot in Everton there is nothing to talk about. I have a good feeling about him thoug. Also, Martinez really wanted him, which is a good sign.
