Chelsea defender Sam Hutchinson has joined Sheffield Wednesday, the club's Twitter page has confirmed.

Hutchinson announced his premature retirement from football in 2010 following a serious of knee operations, but, in a story broken by TalkChelsea, the player made an unlikely comeback in 2011 after twelve months of extensive physiotherapy work. He made his competitive return in 2012, coming on as a substitute in a 6-1 mauling of Queens Park Rangers.

Yet further injury concerns hampered otherwise productive loan spells at Nottingham Forest and Vitesse, and despite a series of strong performances for Wednesday last season in a short-term loan deal, Chelsea took the decision not to renew the defender's contract.

Hutchinson made six appearances for the Blues - including two starts - in his injury-hit spell, but it is for the admirable character he has displayed in making his comeback that he is to be so warmly regarded for.

His best moment in a Chelsea shirt came in April 2010, when he supplied a raking cross from deep that Frank Lampard flicked in during a 7-0 thrashing of Stoke City:

Everyone at TalkChelsea wishes Sam the very best of luck - and health - for the future, and that he, from this point onwards, enjoys a long and fruitful career, for there is no young man more deserving.

Thank you, Sam, and good luck!
