Expectations for 2014-15 season? Time to end the sucess/failure debate for all

What do we think is the expectations for Jose next season now we will be signing Costa/Cavani/Madzukic or whoever top class striker and probably a good CM too. For me it MUST BE TITLE, absolutely must be other while it is a failure and I wouldn't be surprised to see him get sacked at the end of it even if we come very close like this one. This season is a transitional season and we need to understand this will be the last one the club have in a while because after that top class striker arrives there are no more excuses.

Imo min expectations for next are:

At least around QF of Capital One Cup

At least around QF or more of FA Cup

MUST BE AT LEAST QF OF CL unless we get Real/Bayern in the last 16, even then we should have enough to get past Bayern, any other side and it is a must win even if it is Atletico again as they will probably be without Costa and maybe more

MUST MUST MUST WIN THE BPL, a 2nd place finish even with 2 points off the top is not good enough. It is this season considering our resources but not the next

I am sure we can all agree? Or at least I believe this is what the club will be aiming for. Failing to meet the last objective imo will cost him his job unless he wins the CL or Capital One+FA Cups. If you disagree post your own and in a year from now, we can all look back and judge it. No more of that success/failure voting threads will be needed.

ttttttttoooooooooooooooooo early to say this. end of transfer window or atleast start of the season will be the best time to say the expectations.

but one thing is for sure. our MAIN priority should be the league. dont care about CL, we should be winning the PL.

Really isn't we all know we will sign a top class striker and probably a CM, even if not with Matic, Luiz, Lampard and Ramires it is more than enough. Yep I agree with BPL too. So far everyone posted in here agreed that we must win the league too.

we wont win the league, the FA wont allow it

go all out for the CL

so my expectation is CL final

That is the biggest bull ever mate if you are being serious. Sure we get 1-2 decisions against us but loads for us too. Unless you were kidding :)

I just hope, if we dont win anything, that RA doesnt do anything stupid. We need Jose Mourinho to stay for some time, we need a team built with some sort of consistency.

I actually hope he will because with this squad(with wc striker) it is a must. We will be up there with Man City in best starting 11, no excuses. I think he will be sacked especially if we keep playing like we did against Atletico 1st leg. Consistency is earned imo not a given, MU tried it with Moyes and had disastrous results so the stability idea is a bit overrated too.

I think we need 4/5 top quality additions in the summer. They will obviously take time to bed in so i can't see Jose being sacked of we don't win anything.

We have to have a real go at the Premier League next season, none of this 'little horse' crap. Top 2 is a must. We can't just expect to win it though.

Cup comps' including CL i'm not fussed over. Obviously we have to try and win everything but if we do get knocked out i wouldn't be trying to kill myself thats for sure.

If we are trophy less again Jose will be sacked/resign. He already said after a few years if we don't win things he will resign this time. Top 4/5 additions, what? Dude we are not in free spending mode anymore and the max we can expect is probably 2 top signings with maybe Luiz or someone else being sold.

He will not be sacked and will not resign. It seem from what Jose was saying at the beginning of the season they have started a project. And Jose only said that when talking about going 8 seasons without a trophy like Wenger at Arsenal. He said the other day when questionee about the United vacancy he will never leave the club unless the club say otherwise.

4/5 isn't free spending either. It's essential spending. A striker or two. Maybe a midfielder to partner Matic, a left back to replace Ash and maybe Courtois to replace Cech. For me they are essential signings to take us to the next level.

Honestly? I couldn't give a flying f*** about the League or FA Cups, we've won them tons in the last 10 or so years and we don't need to prove ourselves any more in them.

It's all about the PL next season, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect us to win it; we beat City home and away, Liverpool home and away, Arsenal 6-0, Spurs 4-0 and Arsenal 2-0 away in the cup. On top of that Jose will have the whole summer to plan for next season and hopefully buy exactly who he wants, so we should be winning the league. Not suggesting it'll be easy, but we have to expect and aim high.

CL is a hard one, always nice to do well in it but I don't think it really matters any more now we've won it. PL is far more important. Once we've won the PL 2 years on the trot or something, then we can focus on dominating Europe once again.

That's just me though.

(1) Bring in a CF, preferably Diego Costa, a creative CM, Fabregas, Gundogan or Kroos, a LB, Moreno or Rodriguez, and perhaps another AM/winger, more precisely, a goal scoring one like a Greizmann or Lavezzi.

This is crucial if we want to have realistic expectation of winning the league or the champions league. If we are clever in the transfer market, we would have an unstoppable squad. This squad is not far from completion.

(2) Focus more on possession based attacking build-up plays. Mourinho needs to set up his teams to play with more freedom and not turn them to robots. The low-block, counter-attacking football is just not cutting it ATM. Give us the ball and we look clueless, disjointed and ponderous with it. Why? That's why Roman signed the Hazard's, Oscar's and Mata's of this world. Whether fans want to believe it or not, this IS a job requirement and if things do not change, well, we know the history of managers in the "Abramovich era" , Mourinho or no Mourinho.

It's simple really: Fighting for all titles and playing good football. That's the standard at every big club. We must not lower our standards. Not even for club legends.

Do you remember Rodgers' first season at Liverpool? It's knee-jerk reaction people like you who would have sacked him quoting *stability is earned, not given* after his first 18 months in charge. Now look at them. We need stability. I for one wouldn't care if we didn't win a trophy next year as long as I can see that the club is heading in the right direction but I know that won't be enough for fans like you and possibly RA (unless he's grown out of sacking people at the first sign of trouble, which I truly hope and believe he has).
