He was very unlucky getting injured when he did. Koscielny and Mertesacker proved to be too solid as a partnership.

With some luck he can succesfully revive his career somewhere else. He's not a bad player by any means. He's had one disastrous season which erased all his previous ones in the publics mind.

Not sure I would be that dismissive. Granted Vermaelan has been quite average at Arsenal but perhaps Van Gaal can get more out of him and make him a better player than Wenger. Unless you are some 20-year old player, don't expect Wenger to improve on you much...

if he's the only centreback coming in at united, not worried really. if they managed to sign a real leader in defence, he would improve jones/evans' performance too. i don't think vermaelen is that defender for them

Chelsea are interested in signing Barcelona defender Thomas Vermaelen, as well as considering Valencia's Aymen Abdennour.

Vermaelen is on the Blue agenda. The Belgian centre-back is remembered in the Premier League as a good player after his performances with Arsenal.

However, Vermaelen still has Luis Enrique's trust as a the third choie centre-back, ahead of Marc Bartra and Jeremy Mathieu, with the latter more often used at left-back.
