Fernando was brought in because the Fernandinho-Yaya combo wasn't offering enough protection to the back four. Fernando can't replace Yaya. He's purely a holding midfielder who doesn't offer anything in attack.

And I'm glad we didn't shell out 30M plus on Fernandinho. He's good defensively and good going forward but not great in either of those aspects. He's very much living off the hype of his performance against us in the champions league, a performance that I haven't seen him replicate in a City shirt. The times Yaya was out injured and Fernandinho had to step up and play that role, City's attack was sterile.

Yaya played 35/38 games for city in the epl this season.

When City didn't have fernandinho and played with garcia/demichellis, there was a huge difference in play from City. City looked like shit without fernandinho.

Also, fernando coming in allows the option of yaya to be sold and fernandinho to take over his role.

Watch Yaya at Barcelona. He was nothing like Yaya at City. In 3 years, Toure scored 4 league goals.... Now, is it because he got substantially better at City? or because his role was restricted at barcelona. Fernandinho is very good Cm. Long, athletic, technical, good stamina, good vision, etc.

In addition, they already have creative players in Silva, Nasri and Aguero. Yaya can produce moments of magic, however, these days he is also a liability to his CM partner and doesnt play full gear a lot of matches.... Fernandinho can control the tempo of the team better and probably help the team as much.

This man is immense - and it seems easily overlooked at least here on the forum. Last post nine days ago when he's been very good (except for a small streak last friday) all the time.

One of our most important players. Very complete, technical player.
And remember when we got worried about his stamina and pace? Well, he might be working on something to improve because this run+tackle was brilliant and surgical.
