The problem is that we are in January. We just beat Porto and we are on the top of the league and now one of our best players it's gone, he could refuse and wait for July.

Teams like Chelsea, City, PSG, etc, have a lot of money to buy players in January and get stronger for the rest of the season, while teams that don't have a russian or a sheik loose players and get weaker for the rest of the season.

It's got nothing to do with Russians or Sheikhs, it's got everything to do with the Portuguese league not being up to the standards of the Premier League and players as good as Matic will always want to test themselves at the highest possible level. People wanted us to buy gundogan or a cabaye to play with ramires. In my opinion it was just too small in size for a pivot which mourinho agrees.

Now with matic, he has both the size of mikel and the workrate of ramires combined.

This makes it easy to buy a ball passing CM like modric beside him. And we won't lose the physical battle in the midfield.
