I've been going on and on about Matic since before we signed him . I truly believe that he is the best true CDM in the Premier League by a distance and is probably 4th best in the world behind Schweinsteiger, Pirlo, and De Rossi. And I reckon you could make an argument that he could be better than Pirlo and De Rosi before long, if not now.

That wasn't at all aimed at you, btw. It was just an observation after reading through the last dozen threads in this section.

Regarding Matic. I think he can be superb in certain matches and situations, but he's far from the finished article, imo. He still has a lot of room for improvement in areas like passing, heading, positional awareness, ball retention...etc.

Don't think he has much competition for best DM in the PL, though..

His heading stats are fine, but when you consider his height and size, he should really be dominating everything in the air in midfield.

Fair enough. Essien was a better athlete, and his strength was something else, but Matic beats him technically and in terms of calmness on the ball.

He's the complete defensive midfielder IMO, defensively great, covers the ground well, able to beat players with ease and has an eye for a pass. The first few games of the season he wasn't at his best (although Cesc has admitted to pressing too much instead of holding his position, that made Matic more vulnerable in the middle), but these last two games he's been an absolute monster.
