Actually thought he was a little off last night, but like Oscar he still maintains defensive solidity when firing on all cylinders.

Also has a decent free-kick on him, which is less noticeable when he's probably fourth in line for a dig (Luiz, Lamps, Mata...Hazard?).

Totally forgot about the free-kick, wonderful technique, and match by a good save, but we have an abundance of really good fk takers.

While one can't fault his commitment and workrate as well as his usefulness on the counter attacks and offering us width, he really needs to improve his ability ON the ball offensively. More often than not, he always seem to lose the ball whenever he tries to dribble past players etc.

That plus he is not the most creative with the ball either.

he takes players on. he is direct. he is not creative on the ball cos he does not need to be. he has a mind-blowing long shot (watch him play for germany). he does what a winger SHOULD be doing. provides us with width and spread the play nicely. also his workrate and closing down can simply kill the opposition.

Absolutely. The 'classic winger' tag suits him more than AM label.

Perfect match for our set up.

compare games he starts and games he doesnt start, we create more when he starts

It's not a mystery. His movement on and off the ball, especially his diagonal runs, are a lot less predictable than everyone else and force the defense to leave their positions which creates space. This was best visible against Schalke.

I forgot who i told that he has a serious ability of finding himself with dangerous chances, it was underestimated by him.
