Just heard that we are interested in this 19 year old Benfica midfielder. Don't know much about him but he's 6ft 2ins, the captain of Portugal's captain at the U20 World Cup and has been compared to Javi Martinez of Bayern Munich.

knowing benfica - they would probably hold out for the release clause or a huge fee anyway

How much money, do you think he is worth? If he has potential, i dont see reason why not! especially if he is next big thing, the next javi martinez, how i'm reading it. i personally am all for it.

Which is a position we are more or less well stacked in with De Bruyne returning from Werder so we don't need him!

Last season Liverpool were repeatedly linked with a move for Andre Gomes, who then played for Benfica. The Premier League club sent scouts to watch the midfielder several times and there were many reports in Portugal on a possible move and talks ongoing for the player. Liverpool were said to be set to meet the player's buyout clause but Gomes ended up going to Valencia, despite being keen to listen to Premier League offers.

Valencia were in the process of being bought by businessman Peter Lim and he was being helped in his plans to recruit by Jorge Mendes, who also happened to represent Andre Gomes. A deal was struck and Gomes went to the Spanish club where he's been shining since.

The 21 year old Portugal international was something of a coup for Valencia and without the help of Mendes it's impossible he'd have gone there. Local newspaper Super Deporte say that Chelsea have been sending scouts to watch the player and are interested. Manchester United are mentioned too but it's not certain if they're just following Nicolas Otamendi, an Argentine defender, or have a genuine interest in Gomes too.

Chelsea can push aside most clubs in a race for Gomes because of their own special relationship with Jorge Mendes. The Portuguese agent represents Jose Mourinho and Diego Costa but that's not where the link-up ends. During the summer transfer window, Mendes worked closely with Chelsea and Mourinho to help the club get their targets in quickly, even ones he didn't represent.

Valencia dearly want to keep Gomes but if the player agitates for a move in the future then Chelsea, thanks to Mendes, have a distinct advantage.

He is not an old-fashioned defensive midfielder and definetly not a man to play behind the striker. He is a bit like Matic.

He is a great player but I can't see his place in the team. Also, Valencia just paid 15 millions for him, it would be a really expensive transfer.

How does it not?

I think Gomes solves the midfield issue, the biggest problem in midfield is lack of options. Mou has played Matic, Cesc and Oscar in midfield mostly throughout the season, and all three players have run of steam. What Gomes add is another good option to our mdfield.

What the midfield needs is a little tweaking, and i what i believe Mou will do to. A radical change is not needed, for instance this gives him a chance to rest any of those three players. Critically this gives Mou the oppertunity to play Cesc in the 10 more.

Give me Gomes and sign an adequate RW we are a much better team.
