Fantastic 5 Season HBO Series.

Intricate, well written tv show. Just finished the first season. Its fantastic.

Haven't seen Breaking Bad, but I've heard from people who have seen both that The Wire out does Breaking Bad by far.

It has Obamas favourite tv character of any show in it, Omar lol

I've seen the first two seasons. Started the third but got busy with work and school so I decided to stop and restart when I can pay more attention.

The second season was outstanding. It's widely considered the best season, yes?

Its a kind of show which you should have seen during its time.you should really start Breaking Bad,by far the greatest show ever.

I disagree. I've seen the show during 5-6 weeks last year and It's was still one of the best tv show I've ever watched.

Many says Breaking Bad is great but for whatever reason, I don't even want to see it.

I've seen Homeland Sons of Anarchy and even if many likes those show, I found them not that good.

Everyone has their different favourite season, but I think season 4 is probably the best. Season 2 was a shock for many people because all of a sudden, it's like "who the hell are all these white people?" It really is the best show I've ever seen. A work of art that dissects modern-day America brilliantly.

I love Breaking Bad but I see Breaking Bad as an American allegory of one man. The show sacrifices realism for symbolism which works because that's the type of show it is. There is fantastic character development but we're talking about character development in three or four characters. The Wire had ridiculous number of character arcs, almost all of them beautifully drawn some comic and many tragic and more than that, it really does eviscerate social problems in the US (like the war on drugs, education, racism, policing, the decline of the union, the decline of journalism etc...) It's scope is just enormous.

I forget what season it is but I love when they have the scenes in the school and the young cop (he quits for a while) trying to reach the inner city kids and make them understand why they need to learn. It shows how difficult inner city schools can be and how amazing the teachers who work there are (some of them ;) ). It also shows the problem in education where you have those who are there to earn a pay check and those who are there because they love to teach and they care but who get burned out quickly.

Season 4. Cop is Prezbo. Season 4 is just a heartbreaker.

The Wire genuinely deserves to be considered as the greatest crime drama show ever. I'm parallel watching The Sopranos and The Wire at the moment (fourth time for the former, third time for the latter) to settle once and for all which one is better, and The Wire is far better. It's just more... real, I guess; probably since the acting is so natural since they cast Baltimore residents primarily. The Sopranos is unbelievable but it always seems a little removed from reality to me, which counts against it.

I haven't watched Breaking Bad, but I find it difficult to believe that anything can top The Wire for sheer scale of scope and how deeply each part of Baltimore life is explored.

Breaking Bad doesn't really belong in the conversation with the Wire and the Sopranos.

You shouldn't compare the Wire and the Sopranos, they're two amazing shows in their own right and deserve all the plaudits they get. The Wire resonated with me more than the Sopranos but I couldn't compare them, theyre 1a and 1b as far as I'm concerned. I haven't watched either in years btw, I'll try and watch them again sometime soon.

Never got around to watching Sopranos. Maybe over summer.

For me The Wire will be the GoaT, I always have time to re-watch it but haven't done it for a while.. Definitely on the "to-do" list.

So lucky. I wish I could watch again for the first time!

I agree with that, because they aren't really all that similar - The Sopranos leans more towards the drama aspect of the genre of crime drama, whereas The Wire leans more towards the crime side of it. But comparisons are inevitable because they were the two outstanding shows that aired during the same time.

The differences between the 'bad guys' in the two shows is really what drives that home, that the shows don't have much in common - compare, for example, Phil Leotardo to somebody like Chris Partlow. Both are roughly in the same position as each other, the highest ranking guy after the boss

Though of course Phil becomes boss in season 6

but Phil is a man possessed by ideas of family honour and whatnot. He's an ideologue, a hothead. Partlow on the other hand is a cold blooded killer, he almost never shows emotion and he gets on with his business without making a great deal of fuss about it.
