Fernando Torres

goalscoring form or not, I think this season has been a clear indicator that the TEAM plays better with Torres upfront. You cannot argue against that, it is very odd to see. The team just jells more.

Thats quite simple to explain, even though Torres has been decent its not Because of him the team plays so good. This team is at its best when we can counter attack and every match we are expected to defend low and counter with pace Torres has been the starter. When we play against team that park the buss our best option is Etoo because of his (so far) amazing link up play and how technical he is in small spaces.

Torres is more settled to our system now! i think he will score more than the 23 he got last season!

Highly doubt it even if he continues his good form. Last season we played a huge amount of games and he got more chances as he was basically one of our 2 attackers. Now we have three and Torres will be rotated for many. Last season Torres had to play all the European games because Ba was cup-tied and we did not have any other reliable options at the time. Now we have three strikers. Would be amazing he could but a lot of the reason he got those goals as stated was because we kept playing him and played a higher percentage of games more than most teams. This season he will be rotated a lot to refresh our attacking options but would be good to see him get near those figures.

Well, Eto'o is also in good form, why shouldn't have rotation? It should imo especially because you don't want to overload one player if you have a replacement that is just as good. Also Eto'o and Nando play different styles, some matches are more suit for one and some to the other.

Let's not get carried away, Torres has been playing well, but that's it well. he isn't on a Lewandowski form that justifies the lack of rotation. He's good and that's about it. So is Eto'o right now and both with realistic room for improvement

I think should he continue with this good form there won't be much rotation, if he is good Jose will play him and I think that would also help getting a run of games

If that was the case he would have started against Cardiff then but Eto'o did. Jose will rotate because of our options and if we have got another like for like option like Eto'o, Jose will play him as he has 2 strikers who are 100% match sharp. Nice problem to have if they can carry on from where they last left of.

Does he have to be either back or still shit? I mean is there no grey area in between?

Fernando has been playing mostly very good this season and has performed, imo, the best among our strikers so far. Can't we all just hope that he continues this well?

We finally have three strikers on some sort of good form which is a near miracle. We will be needing all three of them to perform well this season if we want to win trophies. Even Torres understands that. After the game when he was asked about Eto'o scoring at the weekend he said he was happy about it and hopes that he continues to do so so that we continue to get results.

Agreed. There has been a change in his mindset this season. In his most recent comments, he said that he was happy to contribute coming off the bench as well.

I partially disagree.

I say it's blasphemy ever comparing Torres to DDA, but Torres has scored against highest caliber of oppositions too. He may have not scored enough times, but he's scored especially in Europe.

Around one third of Torres goals are against Championship level defenses

Reading

Nordsjaelland x2

Wolves

Leeds

Brentford

Monterrey

QPR x3

Genk x2

Leicester x2

Total: 14 out of 38

So he has 24 goals against decent opposition in 141 matches, yeah comparisons with the big man are daft and insulting to say the least

Comparing Torres to Drogba is unfair. Drogba is a better striker, although he may have hit his peak later, comparing any Chelsea striker of the last 10 years to Drogba is unfair because hes been one of the best players in our clubs history. Its like comparing Mikel to Maka, its unfair because Maka was arguably the best holding midfielder of the last 20 years. There is no way Torres will get to Didier's level in terms of the goal record and goals in big games. How many strikers will score that many big goals in big cup finals?

Torres had big shoes to fill, in fact he had a lot of trouble to get out of his shadow as he was still our best striker when Torres arrived, hes got a better strike rate now but hes still been terrible for us for the fee we paid.

Also Eto'o is doing great for not being 100% fit, he might not hit his top level until after Christmas due to rotation and the fact hes been playing very casually for the last 2 years basically.
