Oscar

Being playmaker to me takes a great deal of concentration and reading of the game, reading of movements around you off the ball, reading of your opponents shape, and loop holes, making defence splitting passes, vision and consistency.

I don't see those qualities in Oscar game, not as often as I expect from main playmaker anyway.

His main strenght, even in the first part of the season was his defensive contribution, running, hussling, tackles, interceptions.

He was solid offensively( not many assists for my liking, at least to Hazard or Eto) and defensively some months back, but isn't the same now.

Whether it's fatique or just lack of cosistency or even ability remains to be seen next season.

To me, Oscar's game is his work ethic. He was never as creative as Mata and was never as defensive as Essien. His strengths has always been his ability to hassle opposition upfront and then benefit from balls won.

The problem is, when we play teams that park the bus, there is not much hussling/defending to do.

And teams park the bus against us more often than in the first part of the season.

if he gets a chance to play today he has to kill it.

It's a perfect set up for him to play well. Let's hope he plays his best match so far. It's definitely a long shot given his current form, but form is just like that, someday is there, the next isn't. So maybe it could suddenly pick up

And let the church say Amen. absolutely spot on there. He's a manifestation of how dire and uncreative our team has been and a reflection of the manager's mindset and philosophy. No manager that values creativity, vision, presence of mind, finesse and technical qualities would consider oscar his playmaker, nevermind a premier one.

Thing is Oscar isnt 'different #10'. He isnt even #10 to begin with. He is either CM or all round AM, but he simply isnt creative playmaker. His passing, vision, delivery isnt on level of playmaker. If Oscar is #10, then Lamps was one too (obviously he isnt). Oscar is simply CM who plays in #10 spot.

However that doesnt change the fact that he is good player. He has high ceiling and age on his side. I think its time to stop calling him #10, but a mould of AM/CM midfielder. He isnt to be compared with Isco, Gotze, Mata,...who are all typical playmakers.

If anything Oscar will LEARN how to create, while Mata, Isco, Gotze have that natural gift.

Should Jose give him chance to prove, I think he will come good, but if we decide to sell him, then there are many options who might work even better for us eventualy; Koke, Barkley, Lallana, etc. Maybe even put Willian in middle spot and buy proper RW.

Koke is not a creative player man... Come on. If he's a proper number 10 then so is Oscar.

TBH, he pretty much has everything. He is leading the assist charts in La Liga with 13 which is damn impressive but on top of that is pretty much an all round player and has created a lot of chances in the CL despite doing a lot of defensive responsibilties.

He is a fine player but if we were hypothetically looking for someone to replace Oscar it wouldn't be Koke... He doesn't play there, and I wouldn't put him down as a creative number 10. Most of his assists have come from crosses and set pieces (IIRC).

Judging by the comments I think he is a mixture of both. Set peice specialist and open play specialist. Xavi desrcibed Koke has having similar abilities to him. Villa complimented his all round game as well and judging by what I have read many of Atletico's goals from open play has been assisted by Koke in open play. Averages itself out I think but have not watched him close enough tbh to know how technical and creative a player he is. But I guess you have a point in the fact that many of his assists are crosses due to Atletico's quick counter attacking style and his ability to transform excellently from defence to attack.

I only mentioned him because he could fill the #10 spot should Oscar leave, not because he is #10. And still, he creates much more than Oscar, while both have lot of defensive responsibilities.
