I’m not sure if this has already been brought to everyone’s attention or not, but here is the deal:

Above is a video of a 68-year-old bus monitor named Karen Klein being verbally harassed by a group of middle schoolers on their way home from Athena Middle School in Greece, New York. Throughout the ten minute video, you can hear the kids verbally berate the woman, calling her a bitch, fatass, poor, ugly, and various other words of the like. At one point in the video, you can hear one of the kids yell, “You’re so fuckin poor you fat ass,” in which Karen responds, “I try to live by some of these words, I try and it’s really hard,” referring to the words on her purse. Now, I don’t know about you, but that broke my fucking heart. There’s even a point in the video where one of the kids touches Karen’s arm in an attempt to make fun of her. I’m not sure why these kids would want to bully a senior citizen to tears, but I feel we should do something, or at least try.

She doesn't earn nearly enough ($15,506) to deal with some of the trash she is surrounded by. Lets give her something she will never forget, a vacation of a lifetime!

She should go on a nice holiday and then give the rest of the money to an anti bullying charity.

People get harassed far worse than her on a daily basis.

Pretty incredible how the school don't have a statement or anything regarding it on their website. It's pretty much made the headlines all over the world, yet they can't even release a statement saying they're investigating etc. it's incredibly disrespectful towards Karen if anything.

Look, what the kids did was absolutely awful, but let's have some perspective. We live in a world where people don't have enough food to eat, where babies are born with AIDS and then just die, where millions don't have access to fresh water, where little girls are married off as slaves, etc...Giving money for someone to take a vacation seems like a ridiculous use of resources no matter how terrible the bullying was.

Yeah I know, but as it was mentioned before, she will probably give it to some kind of charity or something.

I'd rather give to charity.

I'd rather do charity with it. Imo, there's a enormous difference between donating and literally "doing your part".

But I agree with TorontoChelsea here. I feel sorry for the lady and all, she doesn't deserve that, she's simply making the basic living she's trying to do. But at least she's making the living, feeding herself, living as well as she can. As KV said, with the amount of money already raised, why this appeal still going on?

Makes me sick to my stomach. Honest it makes me so sad watching this and I hope these kids learn there lesson from this because this is the worst feeling. I hope she enjoys her money and retires happily.

Props to the person who started the website, its a wonderful and compassionate act to get her help and awareness. Hope she enjoys her vacation and use the money to enjoy retirement.

Bullying is series stuff, i knew a girl who lived in the same block as i did growing up who committed suicide because of bullying. She was consistently bullied in school and i am sure the bullys didn't know the extent and damage of their act. It was heartbreaking and most of us wasn't aware of the bullying and her suffering, and overlooked something horrible enough to make someone commit suicide.

The stories of people who are bullied are awful and heartbreaking and it is an issue that doesn't get much awareness. I hope Karen can do the same for others, since she has been blessed by the help and compassionate of others. She can do a lot by spreading her story and donate to a awareness program that helps against bullying.

Giving money for someone to take a vacation seems like a ridiculous use of resources no matter how terrible the bullying was.

no one should be condemned for being compassionate and helping another. Any good act should be praised.

There are definitely people across the world in worse situation, but everyone who is in need should be helped and deserve others compassion. Whoever one choices to help, should be praised and respected because they made a positive difference in the world.

I'm not condemning giving money, but there are limited resources available for charity. Giving to this does actually mean that you are not giving to something more worthwhile. While bullying is a serious issue, this is not money that is geared for anti-bullying groups. This is a fund set up to give a woman a vacation. There are literally millions of more important causes in the world. There are What positive difference in the world is going to come about because this woman is going on an awesome vacation? I don't blame the fund itself which was likely only expecting a few thousand dollars, I blame the ridiculous coverage of this. It's like the Kony video where one issue just goes viral and gets an incredible amount of intention.
