Should be made Captain for next season, definitely

way to early for that but he surely is a great character. you could see how he lifted the team up not only today but numerous times this season and scored some very very important goals. Arguably the goal today and the goal away at cardiff got us back in the CL.

When he is fit an in form he really looks like a quicker, bigger, more athletic version of Pogba.

Just go back a year or 2, and look what fans thought of him.

Just shows how much we know.

Was always talented and showed it at every level that he played. An absolute beast. Keep it up RLC. One of our only bright spots in a season littered with disappointments.

Sarri' s work with him will go unappreciated but his really improved as a player, I'm hoping he puts in the work over the summer and comes back an even better player mentally and physically. Without being biased he could legit become a top 5 European mid if he continues on the trajectory his had this season. You can't buy his, size , power, technic, pace and elegance. It's usually one or 2 not all qualities in 1 player. See physical specimens like Bakayoko and Morata for example

Matt Law's Chelsea briefing tmg_smt_glyph_sport.png

A new ambassador for Chelsea

Ruben Loftus-Cheek has proved his importance to Chelsea on the pitch by winning the confidence of head coach Maurizio Sarri over the past month.

And Loftus-Cheek is also showing he will have a big role to play off the field for the Blues, as the midfielder continues to impress.

Having scored his ninth goal of the season during the victory over Watford in what has turned around to become a hugely successful personal campaign for Loftus-Cheek, the midfielder happily stopped to chat to the Press afterwards.

He even cracked a joke by pretending to be on his mobile telephone, as reporters waited to speak to him, before admitting there was nobody on the other end and talking for well over 10 minutes.

This may not seem too important to the average fan, who, understandably only cares if Loftus-Cheek delivers on the pitch, but it is hugely important to Chelsea.

Gary Cahill’s Stamford Bridge farewell marked the end of an era of Chelsea players who represented the club with pride both on and off the pitch.

The likes of John Terry, Frank Lampard, Petr Cech, Didier Drogba and Cahill were all excellent ambassadors for Chelsea through the good and the bad times.

That generation was always going to be difficult to replace, but Eden Hazard, Cesc Fabregas and even Thibaut Courtois took on the responsibility of fronting up the Press after many of the Chelsea legends had departed.

David Luiz can be engaging company, but the Brazilian tends to only stop and talk when it suits him rather than the club. Similarly, the likes of Willian and Pedro pick and choose their times.

With Courtois and Fabregas already gone, Hazard set to follow and Cahill leaving, there is a real fear over whether or not Chelsea will still have a strong dressing-room voice from next season.

But Loftus-Cheek is certainly proving to be a more than able talker and there is genuine hope that he can be one of the main faces of the club for years to come.

Laid back and intelligent, Loftus-Cheek has represented Chelsea superbly this season and did not let his frustration at not playing earlier in the campaign get the better of him.

It now seems the 23-year-old will not only be a regular starter, but also a regular stopper in the Chelsea mixed zone.

IMO Chick is fundamental for Sarriball. He adds a physical presence that the team lacked for most part of the season. I'm really impressed by this fella.

He adds directness. Without him our midfield just passes sideways.

RLC adds the necessary edge with his runs, dribbles, combination of technique and strength makes him quite unpredictable and efficient.

He needs to gain match fitness that will allow him to play full 90 regulary and prevent injuries. Thats the key objective IMO. Then he will have the foundations to improve his overall performances even further in terms of end product and tactical aspects.

Well here we have it. The first starting XI player to come from the academy since Terry. That's pretty much guaranteed now

Be great if James and CHO did too. Hopefully more game time will improve RLC's decision making in the third, as that really is the only thing.

Plus a tactical understanding. He needs to study CM greats like Gerrard, Kaka, Lamps and Hamsik. He needs to know were to position himself, release a pass etc. Most of them come with game time but I can really see him becoming a EPL great if he puts in the work. (Kinda like Giannis from the NBA did)

I have a heavy, sad feeling that his back problems will keep him from growing in to a very good player. Hope I'm wrong though.

I don't think it will keep him because he is already showing signs of becoming that very good player, but I think it will likely restrict the number of games he can play.

There has been some moaning recently about Sarri taking him off or starting him as a sub but with his history of back problems he's going to have to be managed correctly. I'm sure Sarri would like the luxury at present to play him in every game but it's simply not possible.

This will be no different to next season when we're back in the Champions League too. It will be a case of prioritising games for him.

It will need someone like Barkley to step up himself next season. He's someone who I feel tries too hard to not do things wrong that its leading to him not doing things right because he should be doing the same things that Loftus-Cheek is doing, i.e. driving and pushing the team up the pitch, able to carry the ball through the middle and getting into the box as an extra goal scoring option. His confidence disappeared mid-season when we started struggling and it never recovered and he's yet another player that needs to come back with a point to prove next season.
