Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of 18-year-old striker Patrick Bamford from Nottingham Forest.

Patrick joins us on a permanent deal after making two first-team appearances for Forest, his debut having come as a substitute on the last day of 2011 against Cardiff City, and he will go into the reserve setup with Dermot Drummy.

In pre-season, the Grantham-born England Under 18 international scored a hat-trick against us in a youth team friendly, and has recently shown his goalscoring capabilities in the FA Youth Cup, scoring five times in a 9-1 win over Wigan Athletic before netting four in the next round at Southampton last week. Because of his involvement with Forest, Patrick will be cup-tied for our own Youth Cup campaign.

He was a second-half substitute against Chelsea in the Youth Cup back in 2010 when still a 16-year-old. That was the season we won the competition.

With Forest since he was eight, Bamford debuted for the national Under 18s in November 2010, and is also capable of playing on the left wing.

Ah the famous Chelsea transfer policy continues to work.

This signing is better than £50m Torres who was expected to 'save our season.'

I find your post a bit rude in regards to Bamford & ignorant of the challenges of the January transfer window.

He's been with Forest since he was 8 years old, 10 years at one club. So it's a big move for him in that aspect. I still don't see how he will pogress further than Borini did, considering the climate at this club.

Who knows maybe he can be another Sturridge.

They are rude...but to the club not to Bamford. I wish the lad all the best, but I can't stand seeing Sturridge played out of position and Lukaku burning on the bench right now an 18year old striker joins...no point in dragging Torres into this also.

Ignorant to the challenges? No. I have said I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't sign anyone knowing that it's not easy to bring a quality player in january.

We have problems right now and most of the players we bring in are under20. They are all for future while our squad remains the same. It pisses me of.

Now we are in a tough situation. We have a big gap between our players. A group that is still to young to step up and a group that can't do it week and week out. What we do? We bring another player into the 1st group...

Our similairy with Arsenal is starting to sicken me a bit.

This fact was always going to remain, it was trial and error for André last summer, and we must appreciate the fact he's learning as he goes along. I'm browsing through major deals that occurred this window.. Saha to Tottenham was considered the biggest story in England. Barca, Madrid & Milan x2 were as quiet as us. PSG made a few, but QPR made probably the most.

You must be patient and ride out this season of utter difficulty. June-August will be interesting and we have many reasons to be optimistic because of the targets that were approached in the last 2 windows.

Good luck to him, i think we will start using these players more and more. Not sure when but there must be reasons for signing them. The present is shit but the future does look promising. Hope he gets his shot.

I know all that mate and I am patient. I wrote an article some time ago about all those things and decisions the Club will have to make in the near future.

It's not a risky deal or a bad deal. It's a good deal and yes, I am happy to have another talented player at the club. 1.5m for a talented player is a good price. I do not have a problem with that. We probably didn't want to risk losing him out in the summer and that's all fine and dandy...

As I said, problem is bringing in another young player who will grind it out in the reserves, then do some loans and and still not get enough chances. It has nothing to do with Pat personally, it's just that we have lots of over 28 players and lots of under 20 players. Those young players need to play more often and when we are supposed to give them that chance we can't risk putting them in because of the pressure we are under and they remain on he bench while the older players play and struggle.

It's is better to have 2 young players who will establish themselves in the 1st team instead of having 60 of them who will rot in the reserves and grind it out in Holland or Germany...

Play youth, don't buy it.
