England are about to embark on an important qualifying campaign, with the Finals in France in 2016 the target.

Cahill is determined to start well as they look to build from the World Cup with a new, younger squad.

"For this next qualifying campaign there’s going to be more of an onus on me to be more of a leader, to try and show my experience," says the former Aston Villa and Bolton Wanderers man.

"Even though I’m only in the middle of my career, I feel quite old in the squad! I’ve taken on a lot from those experienced players who have stepped away from the set-up, but I haven’t necessarily had to step forward much in the past because they were always there.

"So there’s added pressure on me and the other senior players to step up."

What I disliked was that he just watched Mirallas, Etoo or Naismith when they were running towards our goal.

This was way of defending we saw before Jose, when no one tried to stop attackers, just waiting for them to get into our penalty area...Think he should run into them trying to stop them before, but whole team reacted very bad vs everton in defence, something for Jose to fix.

Yet he's also been praised for being very proactive in dealing with Lukaku, harrying him and not giving him time on the ball.

Did you see that bit in the first half when he had the water bottle in his hand and simply refused to turn it into wine?
