Frank Lampard

Well, he wanted to burn down the Chelsea museum amid the speculations of Jose going to United. He also refused to be proud of the back to back titles. And those were just pure speculations. Imagine now, with Lamps actually wearing the sky blue shirt. I guess he deleted or erased all the videos about Munich or Bolton, as Lamps is dead to him.

Yea in his mind, JT or Drogs scored those goals.

Watching him after his goal, he just got up and walked away. He looked gutted. After the game he barely acknowledged the City fans and went straight to the Chelsea fans. It looked as if he was going to burst into tears. In 3 post match interviews of his I have seen of his, he always referred to City as 'City' or 'this club', he never used the words 'us' or 'we'. I don't think he feels any affiliation with them at all. He is a Chelsea boy at heart and always will be.

Lampard told City TV: "When we had 11 men we were the stronger team and when we went down to 10 men I think the desire to get back (into) the game meant you didn't even notice we had 10."

"They are all important points. We had a tough start on paper and we are further behind than we would like to be but if we get some flow we can get right up there and we deserve to be right up there."

Well, since it's pretty clear that we won't reach a conclusion, the only thing that we can do is to agree to disagree. It's not like there's a law saying that Lampard is a Chelsea legend and he's untouchable. If people choose to consider him a traitor, let them. If people choose to consider him a legend, let them. This so called 'debate' is useless and it's got way too far, in the moment when people started taking it personal and judging others. Time to get over it.

I can only take your word on that one. I haven't seen City TV.

Maybe a poll could settle it. Forgiven or Never Forgiven. Open for a week, make your vote and the outcome is the outcome. Debate put to bed

Look, the difference between him and Drogba is that Drogba will always be referred to as 'the Chelsea legend', 'the Munich hero' etc, while Lampard will now be known as the ex-Manchester City player. Fact.

I don't care if Drogba's return turns out to be a terrible decision, and I don't care if he is our weakest player at the end of the season. In my mind Drogba will always be remembered as the legend who won us the Champions League. You mention Drogba, and his header and penalty from Munich are the first things that pop into my head. You mention Lampard, and the first image I have of him is in a City shirt. This has left a big stain on his career and anyone who disagrees is deluded. If you still love him as much as you once did, then good for you. Personally I won't be able to look at him the same way anymore.

God this post hurts. Not because it's bad, it's because it's the truth.

Lampard fucked up. And I don't buy that it doesn't bother some people. It must bother every Chelsea fan, some have just been been successful in suppressing their true feelings.

I didn't think it would bother me in the beginning cause I didn't think he'd even suit up but it def hurts now. It hurt when he scored against us, but it also hurt when he scored yesterday and celebrated with City fans as he was one of them. Shouldn't have gone to a domestic rival.

That said, I'm confident time will heal this. It's hurting cause it's fresh, but once he leaves City and this season finishes no one will remember his stint with City. Unless of course he sticks around and wins them a title, then all bets are off.

I would like to say to everyone fair play for keeping this topic civil and on track, the debate has been great to read. It's such a close to the knuckle subject with every point raised contested and really played out well.

Well done lads, this is exactly why the thread was re-opened.

Can't fault you lot.

Back after a long hiatus...

And I must say, I am very disappointed with Lampard. For years I imagined that the day he would finally leave would be one of my saddest days as a Chelsea fan, but alas, that wasn't the case. When he announced he was leaving I felt just... confused, and nothing else. And I blame him for that. I am aware that I will probably open a can of worms with this, having already read some of the comments, but I'm not really sure Lampard feels a real connection with Chelsea anymore, as absurd and ridiculous as this may sound. For me it doesn't matter if he spent 13 years with the club; longevity doesn't necessarily equal loyalty and passion, as Lampard himself has demonstrated perfectly.

The fact that he didn't celebrate his goal to me makes no difference whatsoever. He couldn't hide his real emotions in his post-match interviews and not only did this disappoint me massively, it literally left me with my mouth agape. Hell, even his applauding for the travelling fans to me felt forced and artificial, it looked as though he was obliged to do it and not because he really felt it. Gutted? I don't buy it. Now don't get me wrong, I will be eternally grateful to Lampard the footballer for all those goals and the memories, but I will never forgive him as a person. There is no getting around the fact that what he did is unforgivable, period.

As much as I'm disappointed, I think I have mixed feelings about this whole affair, as I feel it's one of those weird situations where I both agree and disagree with both views at the same time. If a stadium was divided in half for example, with one side singing his name and the other booing him (but what Chelsea fan could possibly boo Lampard?!?!), I honestly wouldn't be able to decide which side I'd be on. Instead, I would probably sit somewhere in the middle, and shout "you fool, look what you've done". The very fact that the fans are questioning his legend status at the club, imo speaks for itself. I was scrolling through pages earlier when I stumbled across an anti-Lampard avatar and I was like, "what the f*ck?". I just sat stunned, frozen in disbelief. If somebody told me just a few months earlier that Lampard the club legend would sink so low as to join one of our biggest rivals, especially after those scenes in Munich, I would either laugh or slap that person in the face. Now that it has happened, I feel as though Lampard has grabbed my own hand and slapped me with it in the face several times. And now he's laughing his ass off because he got away with it.

Was this how we all imagined life at Chelsea without Lampard would be? I don't think so. Is there still loyalty in football? Definitely, but Lampard is clearly no Totti, or Zanetti. To sum up my feelings briefly, I honestly couldn't care less about any future positions for him at Chelsea anymore. They could as well put up posters of him around the Etihad for all I care. Just like he seems to refer to Man City as they (because liek deep connection with Chelsea and stuff), it feels just right that I also refer to him as he from now on.

Very good post. I agree totally, i never imagined things would end like this with Frank. He was one of my fav players of all time. I won't forget what he did do for Chelsea but things he has recently done HAVE changed my feelings. I am sorry they have I will never feel the same about him again. I just can't.

He chose New York City/Man City and I am sorry but he chose to score that goal on Sunday and take the points off us. anyone who doesn't think he could easily have miss kicked and neither side would have noticed or cared.

Ah well it's one of those things that can't be undone.

It's like with Rangers ( who everyone knows I also support) when the club got put into admin and players we had some of them over a decade were all rangers till we die, people we had supported year after year, all walked away and we had like 5 people turn up to preseason. You wouldn't believe these people would leave the club in the lurch after training them, paying them all the fans making them into heroes. It's hard because all the good memories, all the trophies they helped win are very tarnished now. It's hard to watch any season reviews now or think back. They have changed history with their actions it was heartbreaking for Rangers. Players I never thought would leave, did.

I never thought Frank would ever leave Chelsea. I thought he would be like Giggs (at UTD) totally committed to us forever sadly I was shown again wrong and it's very hard to not feel upset,

CITY ***** CITY FRANK??

I never thought I'd see the day :(

Am I the only one that would probably be just as pissed off if I was a City fan?

To muster a complete random hypothetical example that we signed Robbie Fowler back in the day, scored a late equaliser against Liverpool then basically blanked our fans and ran to the Scousers post match then called us 'them' in a post match interview saying he was CAUGHT IN THE MIDDLE while wearing our shirt, then basically forget us and go back to supporting Liverpool after he retires. Which Lamps will do to City im sure of it.

Imagine that, City fans should be fuming, signing big clubs legend when there in their twilight years is what mid table clubs do, like themselves with Fowler or Bolton with Fernando Hierro.

Not going to lie this stings a bit, but City fans should be just as unhappy with the whole saga, if not more.

I don't think City fans would care, they enjoy taking people, Nasri etc.

They knew it would upset Chelsea to have Frank so they took him and Pelligrini knew what he was doing putting him on last few minute of that game.

City have no loyalty, no family atmosphere, no team spirit, all they saw was our ex player taking the victory off us, they would have been f**** delighted :(

If he just went there and became/becomes liability for them like he was for us, starts quite e few games, slows down their midfield and causes a few bad results, people wouldn't be hurt, in fact they would probably joke about it and called him our secret agent.

The problem begins with him scoring. That's when it starts to hurt.

But take it easy folks. At the end of the day, you will have the last laugh when Terry lifts that trophy.

And please ask yourself again would Mourinho realy like to have Lampard and Fabregas in the same team. I think not.

Even if I agree with most of your thoughts, I can't agree with this one. He can't be blamed for scoring against us and you can't criticize him because he didn't miss that opportunity. He was right to score, it was just the right and professional thing to do in that situation. The damage was already done, in my opinion, and him scoring against us has nothing to do with it.
