See for a backup striker, this might sound daft as fuck but why not look at Gary Hooper.... scored 101 goals in 4 years, probably going to be ridiculed for it but he would have a similar impact to Nikita Jelavic has had at Everton with some service... may play in the SPL but still we want a "cheap alternative" for back up, why not consider him lmao. Only 24 and would count as a homegrown player! Still won't happen but in the right team he would be unreal, hes great in and around the box has a bit of pace and great finishing..... or spend another 50 million on someone :Goober:

Many of these players could be worth a punt in my opinion. Some would be excellent squad players, such as Hoilett, Andy Johnson, Craig Gordon (Fantastic back-up for Cech), Diame (Potentially good enough for the 1st team), Astori and Miccoli.

Hope we pick up a bargain.

Just this on Twitter.

Marcus Christenson@m_christenson

Blackburn's Martin Olsson says 'he's aware' of Chelsea's interest in him. Has told his agent he wants to focus on Euros. (@oloflundh)

Backup for what?! Cole still have 1-2 years left in him and we have Bertrand as his successor. Why do we need Olsson?!!

This. Buying him would make sense only if we were planning to sell Cole and make Bertrand first choice with Olsson as backup. Personally I wouldn't be against selling Cole because of the high wages and this year being probably the last chance to get some money out of him but I'm sure he will stay and that's okay too. No doubt he still has very much to offer to the team for a year or two but financially it would be wise to sell him while he's still worth something.

Ryan has been very impressive every time he has played for us and I think he is ready to be first choice, if not this year then definitely the next. Hanging on to Ash for too long with him playing almost every match could be very harmful for Bertrand's development and I fear he will leave if he's not going to be first choice anytime soon.

Agreed no need for left back but I would keep A Cole another season at least. His experience will be key for Bertrand's development as he is still very inexperienced at the highest level.

Going on the basis that we should play somewhere between 55-60 games next season, I would like to hope Bertrand gets somewhere between 20-25 games, with Cole getting 30-35 games. Cole has clearly benefitted from not playing every game at the back end of this season, he has stayed fresh for the big games and performed in them. And in doing so Bertrand had a chance to play some big games such as Liverpool and Arsenal away which put him in decent stead for the Champs League final.
