Aston Villa 0-2 Chelsea

Benayoun was one of the few, or perhaps the only player I liked from Liverpool... the other being Kuyt. Everytime he played against us I felt he was one of the main threats because of his movement, agility, team work and vision. He also has this great laid-back personality, concentrates fully on the football. He is a good addition to the squad, even as a backup player. Wish he was a bit younger though :D

First real test. I must say that I agree with what is being said on here about Benayoun. He's always worked his socks off. Though it is only pre-season, he's been given a great deal of license to roam, create, and harass the opposing defense. Looking quite skillful.

i dont think that the formation used by avb in the last game would work against villa... we reaaly need mikelif essein is not there... i dont think yuri or lamps can do the holdin role very well...

we have started to believe a team can't function without a specialist holding midfielder ,,,but how many defenders are needed to mark a single striker.

I have often felt there were games when the holder was neednt at all. the deeper role is well within Franks capabilies

D'you think that AVB is simply going to rotate the squad again or put out his best 11?

What do you guys think our best 11 will be after the pre-season games so far?

I'm pretty sure Yossi would be part of any of the line-ups I would make right now...

Andre Villas-Boas will rotate his squad once more when we complete our summer tour with Saturday's match against Aston Villa in the Barclays Asia Trophy final.

Josh to play against Villa :cfc:

'I spoke to Josh at the beginning and asked him where he felt best on the pitch,' added Villas-Boas.

'The deeper number 6 position is a very important position. I know that Josh touches the ball more in that position and likes to play from that position, but he is also a player who likes to face the play more often and he has the vision to see people in attacking positions with quite some ease.

'It is good to test him as a number 8 position further forward and I think he has the tactical and technical awareness to play in that position. He can fulfil both positions and I am sure he can play the number 10 position as well. But the flexibility that Josh offers is very, very important in any squad and for any coach.

'Josh tomorrow will be involved again in the number 8 role, organising the game from that position.'

there is no doubting lamps ability... but we ll be missing his late runs and his goals for sure if we make him play deep (just like england)... plus i feel holdin is extremely important in any game...gives u tat extra bit of security...

I hope AVB plays with the same 4-2-3-1-ish shape, with Frank in the same role and either Josh or Yossi behind the striker (either Drogba or Torres). Would like to see how we play in that formation against stronger opposition.
