According to a report in the Times Iaquinta would be available for in the region of £8m due to an abundance of attacking talent at the club.

The striker has only featured in six matches for Juventus this season, a reflection of the fact he has been carrying an injury since October.

A tall, imposing, physical player, Iaquinta would appear well suited to the Premier League.

Ancelotti values his versatility and pace and his ability to occupy a forward position across the line as he seeks to add options to his attack.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have decided to allow one of the players who was at the centre of a bitter £5 million legal feud with Leeds United to leave Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea are now finalising terms with Carlisle over young midfielder Tom Taiwo who moved to Chelsea from Leeds along with fellow England Under-16 international Michael Woods in highly controversial circumstances.

The move in 2006 saw Leeds have made a formal complaint to the Football League over three alleged illegal approaches by Chelsea. The league has referred the complaint to the Football Association as it involves a Premier League club.

The Bayern Munich striker has been told he can leave in January after his relationship with boss Louis van Gaal was deemed unworkable.

Although the Italian would prefer a return to Serie A, he’s been strongly linked with a move to West Ham ever since it became clear he would be allowed to move on.

Gianfranco Zola is desperate to boost his strike force with his team struggling at the wrong end of the table.

Yet reports today in Italy suggest Chelsea are showing signs of interest. Manager Carlo Ancelotti is eager to provide some cover for Didier Drogba during the Africa Cup of Nations and Toni could resolve the issue.

That he would simply be a short-term solution may concern the 32-year-old who is eager for first-team football to push his chances of a place in the Italy squad for the World Cup. (Independent)

This strikes me as a very wise move by Carlo Ancelotti. Not only will Chelsea net themselves a proven striker who is perfectly built to do well in the Premier League but in Luca Toni they have a great short term replacement for African Nations Cup bound Didier Drogba.

Quite why Italian International Toni is unable to secure a regular run out at Bayern Munich is beyond me, the former Fiorentina man has been a veritable goal machine at the Allianz Arena but can’t buy a break from new boss Louis Van Gaal.

Chelsea will be looking to cement their place at the top of the Premier League table and will struggle without a myriad of players heading for Angola and the £6m rated striker will be a very intelligent acquisition.

With Cech off the pace, Chelsea have been alerted to the fact that Green has attracted firm interest from Sunderland and Aston Villa, who both want to do business next month, as the Daily Express revealed on Saturday.

Cech, the Chelsea No1, was peerless in the Premier League before his skull fracture three years ago. Recently his indecision has led to a previously reliable defence shipping goals and conceding points.

Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti has been reluctant to point the finger at Cech, but Chelsea have conceded 11 of their 13 league goals from set-pieces this season, proof enough that Cech and his defenders no longer have the kind of understanding that previously made them such an iron-clad outfit.

Cech is getting caught in no-man’s land, either not advancing for balls in the box or coming out and being left stranded, and Chelsea are running out of patience.

West Ham are almost resigned to losing Green and have alerted staff to search for cover. Manager Gianfranco Zola feels reserve keepers Marek Stech and Peter Kurucz lack the experience to go straight into the Premier League.
