Chelsea are lining up a £9million summer swoop for Newcastle United defender Steven Taylor.

The Blues are already planning for the introduction next season of the Premier League’s home-grown quota system and targeted the ex-England Under-21 skipper as an ideal recruit to boost their domestic numbers.

The 24-year-old has been on Chelsea’s radar since the days of Jose Mourinho, but the looming home-grown quota has hardened their interest this season.

Chelsea scout Bryan “Pop” Robson, a former Magpie, has been a regular visitor toSt James’ Park this term, where Taylor has been in eye-catching form at the heart of a Magpies defence that has proved one of the meanest in the Championship.

Sergio Canales

Sergio Canales and his father Gelo continue to weigh up offers from big clubs across Europe and whilst Real Madrid are still favourites, Chelsea and Manchester City have made attractive offers, according to the Spanish press today.

Gelo Canales has spoken to all clubs that are interested in his son and was in England over the past week to discuss a move, holding talks with Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea.

A decision is believed to be close with Chelsea offering first team football to Canales on arrival at Stamford Bridge and Manchester City have made a huge offer to secure the 18-year-old attacking midfielder.

Sergio Canales would prefer to stay in Spain but has consulted current team mate Xisco (on loan from Newcastle) on what living in England is like.

In Chelsea and Manchester City ’s favour is that Racing Santander are likely to accept the biggest offer they receive for the hottest prospect in Spain. Canales is out of contract at the end of the season but is set to sign a new deal with a 10 million euro release clause.

The 5.8ft attacking midfielder has been a revelation in the Spanish Primera Division, scoring five goals in just eight appearances.

Luca Toni

Chelsea could hijack West Ham’s attempts to lure Luca Toni to the Premier League it was reported today.

The Bayern Munich striker has been told he can leave in January after his relationship with boss Louis van Gaal was deemed unworkable.

Although the Italian would prefer a return to Serie A, he’s been strongly linked with a move to West Ham ever since it became clear he would be allowed to move on.

Gianfranco Zola is desperate to boost his strike force with his team struggling at the wrong end of the table.

Yet reports today in Italy suggest Chelsea are showing signs of interest. Manager Carlo Ancelotti is eager to provide some cover for Didier Drogba during the Africa Cup of Nations and Toni could resolve the issue.

That he would simply be a short-term solution may concern the 32-year-old who is eager for first-team football to push his chances of a place in the Italy squad for the World Cup. (Independent)

This strikes me as a very wise move by Carlo Ancelotti. Not only will Chelsea net themselves a proven striker who is perfectly built to do well in the Premier League but in Luca Toni they have a great short term replacement for African Nations Cup bound Didier Drogba.

Quite why Italian International Toni is unable to secure a regular run out at Bayern Munich is beyond me, the former Fiorentina man has been a veritable goal machine at the Allianz Arena but can’t buy a break from new boss Louis Van Gaal.

Chelsea will be looking to cement their place at the top of the Premier League table and will struggle without a myriad of players heading for Angola and the £6m rated striker will be a very intelligent acquisition.

Robert Green

Chelsea are plotting a January swoop for West Ham goalkeeper Robert Green following a series of below-par performances from Petr Cech.

With Cech off the pace, Chelsea have been alerted to the fact that Green has attracted firm interest from Sunderland and Aston Villa, who both want to do business next month, as the Daily Express revealed on Saturday.

Cech, the Chelsea No1, was peerless in the Premier League before his skull fracture three years ago. Recently his indecision has led to a previously reliable defence shipping goals and conceding points.

Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti has been reluctant to point the finger at Cech, but Chelsea have conceded 11 of their 13 league goals from set-pieces this season, proof enough that Cech and his defenders no longer have the kind of understanding that previously made them such an iron-clad outfit.

Cech is getting caught in no-man’s land, either not advancing for balls in the box or coming out and being left stranded, and Chelsea are running out of patience.

West Ham are almost resigned to losing Green and have alerted staff to search for cover. Manager Gianfranco Zola feels reserve keepers Marek Stech and Peter Kurucz lack the experience to go straight into the Premier League.

A deal with Villa could lead to veteran Brad Friedel moving to West Ham while, at the other end of the age spectrum, Zola’s scouts are tracking Huddersfield’s Alex Smithies, 19, who has also interested Stoke. West Ham’s options as far as purchasing players is concerned appeared to have improved last night with the news that David Gold and David Sullivan have lodged a firm bid of £50million to buy the club.
Ribeiro sealed Robinho's move from Santos toReal Madrid in 2005 and his subsequent £34m British transfer switch toManchester City in September last year.

'Wagner has been sounded out, but there is nothing official,' said Neymar Sr.

'Therefore,we haven't moved any further because Wagner can only go to Santos whenthere is something official. For now, we're not dealing with any ofthat.

'Neymar is very young. He had a good year, but stillneeds to grow. I don't think that now is the time to leave. He needs toshow more for Santos and win titles here. Prepare better.'

Neymaris already in the Santos first team, scoring nine goals from 12 startsand 18 appearances from the bench in Brazil's Serie A this season.

He would not be able to register for a team outside Brazil until his18th birthday in February, but there is already plenty wanting to takehim out of South America.

Jack Rodwell

Chelsea refuse to shelve their interest for Everton teenager Jack Rodwell.

The Independent says Chelsea have made their first significant move since their transfer embargo was suspended by making a preliminary £14m offer for the Everton teenager Jack Rodwell, which has been rejected by the Merseyside club.

In the past Chelseafootball chief Frank Arnesen has signed much younger, less well-knownplayers from the academies of clubs such as Leeds United, SheffieldUnited, Feyenoord and, infamously, Lens from whom they signed GaëlKakuta, but this is the first time they have made a move for a moreestablished young player. Daniel Sturridge, 20, had played only fivetimes for City before he joined Chelsea on a free transfer in the summer.

Rodwell is regarded as a much safer bet than Sturridge, who has failed to make any impression so far at Chelsea.Rodwell is advised by his father Malcolm, and the licensed agent MickMcGuire, formerly the deputy chief executive of the ProfessionalFootballers' Association.
