  1. 15. Kurt Zouma

I'm not disagreeing with any of that. I just think that Silva's presence and leadership will help AC and Rudiger more then it will Zouma as his presence will directly affect many of their issues, organization and discipline, where there isn't help for Zouma's. I like Zouma, I just don't think he fits the type of center back that Lampard wants to play the style he wants.
  2. 15. Kurt Zouma

I like the optimism but I just don't see it. Playing next to Silva will help him a lot but a lot of what holds Zouma back is technique and it won't matter who's next to him for that. Honestly I think Silva will help out AC and Rudiger more in that he will help with their bigger issues of staying focused and organized.
  3. Malang Sarr

He's got the potential to be very good in the near future. I would probably keep him around this season but I can see a point of view to sending him out on loan as well. I kind of feel like it's a last chance season for several of our current center backs. Next season will most likely be a major remodel of the center of our defense, so if he's on loan this year and playing regularly he'll be in good shape to come in and compete next season. I think that's probably the reasoning behind loaning him out this season.
  4. 21. Ben Chilwell

Glad to get a signing at left back done. Hope he has a lot of success here.
  5. Super Frank Thread

Wish him the best. Glad to have him back at the club.
  6. Willian

That's pretty mild for this board actually. Have you never looked in at the Alonso thread?
  7. Sarri But Not Sarri Thread

I agree with this. The only thing working against this is if the transfer ban stays in effect this summer. I think he can improve the squad by bringing in some players we had on loan this season but I don't think that will be enough to improve the results much beyond this past season.
  8. The English Football Thread

In that case it looks like it's time to pay the piper. It's unfortunate that this has happened at a time when we aren't really in a position to handle it, but that's at the foot of the board and their policies over the past several years.
  9. The English Football Thread

Thanks for clarifying that point for me.
  10. The English Football Thread

Excuse my ignorance but one quick question. I was under the impression that the infractions that we have been banned for occurred several years back. It's all fine and good saying that the laws have been in place for years now, but if they were new when the infractions incurred, what's the difference? Maybe I'm misinformed on the situation.
  11. Sarri But Not Sarri Thread

This season was disappointing but really not that unexpected. It was a short pre-season coming off the World Cup and we didn't really upgrade the squad any. We started really well, though showed some worrying signs, and then it was a return to the previous year. I think people's perceptions would be totally different if the first 12 games had been flipped with the last 12 games. If nothing else it would give hope that we were picking up and getting better at the system he was trying to implement. As it is, we achieved the goal most had at the start of the year and although Sarri had his moments that made us scratch our heads or curse him out on the boards. If the transfer ban gets lifted I'm looking forward to how we retool and what type of players we go after. With some more suitable options in the team is he able to get us playing the style he implemented at Napoli? If the ban doesn't get delayed it's going to be this year all over again and we'll have to sweat out trying to get top 4 and not being happy with how we play.
  12. Sarri But Not Sarri Thread

Anyone saying Sarri is faultless or hasn't made mistakes this season isn't paying attention. That said, he got us a top 4 finish and 90 minutes from a European final with a team that I think we can all agree is lacking a lot. If the transfer ban is lifted or delayed we can see what he can do with a bit more quality in the overall squad. If not, it's going to be deja vu next season.
  13. Alex Telles

Is Chilwell off the table? I would like Telles and he would probably be cheaper but I think you have to account for the homegrown factor as well. Fullback seems like a position we could pump up our homegrown numbers and improve our quality, assuming we are able to buy anyone.
  14. Roman Abramovich Thread

    Yes, agree totally.
  15. Roman Abramovich Thread

I have to admit this last part about UK buyers I find a bit baffling. I learned never make business personal and that last part seems like a direct response to how the UK government is treating him. You won't let me into your country I won't sell my club to anyone in your country. Maybe he just thinks he can get more from outside buyers then he can from someone in the UK but it really comes across as kind of petty and petulant.
  16. Chelsea banned for TWO transfer windows

Wow. I know FIFA is corrupt but this is ridiculous.
  17. Aaron Wan-Bissaka

I certainly wouldn't be against buying him but I think it really depends on price. It's not the most pressing position in my mind. If we are going to spend on a fullback I want a left sided one first. I just feel that side is weaker and we actually do have a prospect up and coming on the right side, so, I'd just focus more on the other side of the pitch and use that money on other positions.
  18. Sarri But Not Sarri Thread

You make a good point but in my mind probably the best game we've played recently was the second leg against Spuds.
  19. 1. Kepa Arrizabalaga

We've certainly had some quality keepers. Being least talented out of that quartet isn't something to be ashamed of. I think it's a bit harsh though. I'd wait a season or two.
  20. Non-Chelsea Transfer Pub

The lack of foresight and planning to put us in this position is hard to swallow. Trying to save money every year is going to wind up costing us a lot more in the long run. There needs to be a lot of incomings and outgoings this off season and I can't remember us doing more then 3 or 4 incoming players in a long while.
  21. Sarri But Not Sarri Thread

Like I said I must have misremembered. No argument from me on this.
  22. Sarri But Not Sarri Thread

Is that right? I must have misremembered, I thought Conte took the first two days of preseason and then was let go. I don't remember Sarri showing up and taking over the next day, I thought they had someone else running training for at least another couple days after that. I thought it came out to basically missing the first week. He might have only missed the first two days but I think it goes further then that. It was always going to be a tough preseason this year with the World Cup but the Conte situation and the haggling with Napoli only added to it. It's arguable, but I'm a firm believer in the importance of preseason. No reason to set yourself back anymore then you need to. Others may disagree of course.
  23. Sarri But Not Sarri Thread

Yes, he did say that, but wasn't your point that the board did a good job this off season? My point earlier was that the problems go further then the manager and that we need a shake up at the board level. The new manager may have said the transfer market bores him but the board should have realized that the squad needed more then just Jorginho and a loan of Kovacic to compete at the level they expect. That's why I think the titles won by Mourinho and Conte glossed things over, especially at the board level. I don't think they are actually in touch with the quality or lack there of in the current squad.
  24. Sarri But Not Sarri Thread

I agree with you on this, but did they set him up to be successful? Did they get him in early in the summer so he could have a full preseason? This point I'll concede they got him Jorginho, but waiting until the end of January for Higuaín really didn't do him any favors. Who knows how it would have turned out if they'd brought him in the summer as well. Really they took a 5th place team and added Jorginho and picked up Kovacic on loan. Switched out keepers. I'm not sure that would have been enough to improve the team much anyway, but throw in changing the philosophy and style of play, I don't think the board did Sarri any favors. They didn't have the courage of their convictions to get fully behind the change and back it with everything they could to be successful.
  25. Sarri But Not Sarri Thread

It is confusing. I have to admit I don't know enough about the back ground set up for the women's team to say much about it. I'm not sure Lamps would be a good choice just yet, purely from a lack of experience perspective but who knows, maybe it's worth a shot. I honestly think the changes need to deeper then just the manager though. There needs to be a shake up at the board level in my opinion.
