Champions League: Premier League hit by Uefa seed changeThe Premier League will have only one top-seeded club in next season's Champions League after Uefa introduced new regulations. For the 2015-16 campaign, the eight top seeds will be the champions from Europe's top seven leagues and the competition's holders. The change in rules should lead to more of Europe's major clubs meeting each other in the group stage. Previously teams were seeded by Uefa's rankings, based on results in Europe. That meant Chelsea and Arsenal were both in pot one for the group-stage draw at the start of the season. But, as there is no Premier League side left in this year's competition, only the English champions will be placed among the top seeds next season. Better be us :blue scalf:

  12. Frank Lampard

As Chelsea fans reacted rather angrily to news that Frank Lampard would spend the rest of the season with Manchester City, it has been revealed that he is not on loan at all.It may seem to be a footballing case of splitting hairs given that New York City are owned by the same people who own Manchester City, but according to Sports Illustrated’s Grant Wahl a source from NYCFC told him that the player is not on loan with Manchester City and if you look at the statement put out by City (Manchester, not New York) you will see that they do not actually mention the word ‘loan’. Wahl tweeted: While Manchester City said Manchester City can confirm that it has extended Frank Lampard’s contract up to the end of Manchester City’s season, enabling his continued participation in both domestic and European campaigns.
  13. Cesc Fàbregas

Chelsea’s Spanish midfielder Cesc Fabregas is set to spent three weeks on the sidelines with a thigh injury, missing international games against Belarus and and Germany, as well as key fixtures for the Blues, The midfielder played for the Blues away to Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday, despite having a niggling injury, and it has been made worse by his inclusion, though his side did run out 2-1 eventual winners, despite going behind to the home side. He now faces three weeks on the sidelines after tearing a muscle in his thigh, meaning he will miss Spain’s clashes with Belarus and World Champions Germany, as well as Chelsea’s Premier League tie with West Bromwich Albion and their trip to Schalke in the Champions League.

  23. Thibaut Courtois

Thibaut Courtois will NOT play against his parent club Chelsea in the Champions League semi-final, according to reports in Spain. The Blues will take on Atletico Madrid later this month for a place in the final in Lisbon in May. And according to Marca, the Belgian stopper won't go up against his parent club - as Diego Simeone wants to keep him on loan next season. Courtois has been a major reason for Atletico's rise this season, and was again in outstanding form as Los Rojiblancos saw off Barcelona in their quarter-final clash this week. Now he could stand in the way of his parent club, after UEFA declared that any clause denying him the opportunity to play in the semi-final was “null, void and unenforceable” . Publicly Chelsea have stated that they are prepared for the young keeper to play, with chief executive Ron Gourlay stating: “As far as the player is concerned, Thibaut, he can play against Chelsea, in both ties, if he is selected...That is fact.” But behind the scenes they are known to be furious that the clause inserted in Courtois' deal in the Spanish capital at the start of his third loan spell has been overruled by UEFA.
  24. European Competition thread

The Premier League is likely to move Chelsea's potential Premier League title decider with Liverpool later this month after the Londoners's progress into the Champions League semi-finals throw up a fixture nightmare. The first leg of the Champions League semi-final is due to be played in less than a fortnight. Ahead of the second leg, they are due at Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday April 27, although this could now take place on April 26. Chelsea will play one of their semi-final games on a Tuesday and one on a Wednesday. The draw for the semi-finals will take place on Friday. The Premier League will ensure that they do not have to play on a Sunday and then 48 hours later on a Tuesday, meaning the match with Sunderland on April 20 could also be moved forward a day.
